NATO Secretary General attends London Security Summit
On Sunday (2 March 2025) NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte attended the Securing Our Future Summit in London, United Kingdom.
Heading into the meeting, the Secretary General stressed the three key points:
Following what he described as ‘a very good meeting’, the Secretary General pointed to announcements from Finland and the United Kingdom, as the latest examples of Europe stepping up.
He recognised the importance of the initiative taken by the United Kingdom and France to support a lasting peace deal, with others wanting to help out.
And he praised efforts in both Europe and Canada to increase investment in defence, as necessary for security, and as a move to strike a fair balance with the US in terms of defence spending.

European Council president to attend Arab Summit on Gaza reconstruction
President of the European Council, António Costa, flew to Cairo on Monday to represent the EU at an emergency summit of the League of Arab States in Cairo on Tuesday, aimed at countering US President Donald Trump’s Gaza “Riviera” plan.
A statement released by the Delegation of the European Union to Egypt noted that Costa will reiterate the EU’s commitment to achieving a comprehensive, just, and lasting peace in the region during the summit.
“This approach is rooted in the two-state solution, which aims for Israel and Palestine to coexist peacefully within secure and recognised borders, in line with relevant UN resolutions,” read the statement.
The summit will focus “on plans for the safe return of Palestinian civilians, the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip, and its future governance,” the statement added.
“I am travelling to Cairo to emphasise that the EU will be present on the ‘day after’ to work with partners towards a lasting and sustainable peace based on the two-state solution,” Costa told the media ahead of the trip.
He voiced the EU’s support for early recovery and reconstruction efforts in Gaza as an essential part of the future Palestinian state, in line with UN resolutions and international law.
Arab and Islamic leaders will gather Tuesday in Cairo to present a unified Arab stance to counter Trump’s proposal that suggested Washington take control of Gaza, forcibly displace its native Palestinian population to Egypt, Jordan, and other Arab and Muslim countries, and build a Middle Eastern Riviera.
This colonialist-style proposal sparked a global outcry, with Egypt, Jordan, Palestinians, and Arab countries rushing to reject the idea, reaffirming that establishing a Palestinian state remains the only fair resolution to the Palestinian cause.
On Sunday, Minister of Foreign Affairs Badar Abadelatty said an Egyptian-Arab-Islamic plan for Gaza reconstruction, which ensures Palestinians remain on their land, is ready to be presented at the summit.
