911 call released in Burke County fatal shooting

WAYNESBORO, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – Newly released recordings of a 911 call shed light on what happened when a man was fatally shot in Burke County over the weekend.

We requested the 911 recordings from the morning Telvin Osborne, 30, died.

Hannah Cobb, 25, was arrested Tuesday on a charge of felony involuntary manslaughter and booked into Burke County jail, according to authorities.

She faces a bond hearing Friday.

The audio quality is very poor but Hannah is heard telling the dispatcher she was either clearing or cleaning her gun and it went off hitting her boyfriend. Burke County Sheriff Alfonzo Williams told us in a press conference there was no information or evidence about a person cleaning a gun before the incident.

The full 911 call is almost nine minutes long and difficult to understand at times, but we have linked it below so you can hear for yourself. The only thing that has been edited is the audio quality.

Almost three minutes into the call Cobb appears to say, “I didn’t mean to ma’am. It was an accident. We were checking the chamber of my gun and it accidentally went off. I’m so sorry. Oh my god, I don’t know what to do.”

At the 4:27 mark, Cobb goes on in the 911 call to say it was an accident.

“I didn’t mean to, ma’am. I’m so sorry. It was stuck in the chamber and I accidentally pulled the trigger,” said Cobb.

The sheriff said the shooting has not been classified as accidental, and the shooting occurred after “both parties had been drinking.” He said there was a confirmed altercation before the shooting.

This comes after the community and social media erupted after no immediate arrest was made in this case.

Deputies say that around 5:45 a.m. Sunday, they responded to the 800 block of 4 Points Road in Keysville to investigate a report of a shooting.

On the scene, investigators say they found Osborne in the master bedroom with a gunshot wound to the chest.

Investigators say Osborne was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Cobb was the person who notified authorities of the shooting and was applying pressure to the wound when they arrived.

Cobb told deputies she and Osborne had been out all night and recently got home.

Cobb told deputies in the report, she was checking her firearm “as they do every night.”

That’s when the gun went off, hitting Osborne. Cobb told deputies she thought the gun was safe while checking it.

Williams said at Tuesday’s news conference that the investigation started in the wee hours of Sunday and that authorities “put in 48 hours – literally.”

“The case required a considerable amount of time and attention to detail ensuring there was a comprehensive sifting of the evidence, and we have filed appropriate charges,” said Burke County Sherriff Alfonzo Williams.

He also said there was an altercation with some “pushing and shoving” before the incident happened.

“It is reckless to go out and get drunk and then introduce a firearm into an argument,” said Williams.

A 17-year-old was arrested last week in Jenkins County after pointing a gun at some other students, according to authorities.

After a “thorough sifting of evidence” and interviews with friends, family members and other information-gathering, “we were able to secure warrants and make an arrest in this case,” he said. He said that during a painstaking process, authorities were able to understand the relationships, habits and lifestyle of those involved.

He described the victim as a father, son and employee at the Savannah River Site, adding, “This is very tragic that he’s lost his life.”

This case is being treated as a homicide, and some family members felt the sheriff’s office wasn’t doing enough.

Right now, the sheriff said more charges could be a possibility or charges could be upgraded.

Cobb remained in the jail Tuesday afternoon.

The sheriff said they have not responded to that home for other incidents.

Authorities are offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the fatal shooting of a man in South Carolina.

It was among two shootings in the CSRA on Sunday.

The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office says a boy was injured in a shooting in Augusta on Sunday night.

The incident comes amid an outbreak of violent crime that’s claimed about 200 lives in nearly three years across the CSRA.

Communities large and small have been affected on both sides of the Savannah River.

Burke County woman charged with involuntary manslaughter in death of boyfriend

Hannah Cobb

A Burke County woman has been charged with involuntary manslaughter in the domestic shooting death of her boyfriend on Sunday, Sheriff Alfonzo Williams announced Tuesday.

Hannah Cobb, 25, of Keysville, is accused of killing 30-year-old Telvin Osborne early Sunday in the master bedroom of their home, which they share with their two children. It happened after an argument and an evening of drinking, the sheriff said.

“It is reckless to go out and then get drunk and then introduce a firearm into an argument,” Sheriff Williams said during an afternoon press conference while explaining the charge, emphasizing that the case has NOT been ruled an accidental shooting.

The fight involved pushing and shoving before Cobb fired the fatal wounds on the father of her children. He said there was no prior record of domestic incidents between them.

An incident report says, “Cobb stated that her and Osborne have been out all night and recently arrived home. Cobb advised that while checking her firearm ‘as they do every night’ the firearm went off striking Osborne in the chest. Cobb advised that she thought the handgun was on safe while she was manipulating the firearm.”

On Sunday morning, at approximately 5:45 a.m., deputies responded to a report of a shooting at the 800 block of Four Points Road near Waynesboro. Upon arrival, investigators discovered Osborne in the master bedroom with a single gunshot wound to the chest. He was rushed to the hospital but was later pronounced dead.

Cobb was initially cooperating with the investigation, according to the Burke County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO). The BCSO’s Criminal Investigation Division is continuing to gather evidence and obtaining search warrants to understand the circumstances surrounding the incident. Sheriff Williams credited the fast work of the CID team in resolving the case within 48 hours and said earlier claims on social media that Cobb was cleaning a gun at the time the weapon fired were false.

While Cobb has been charged, the investigation remains ongoing, and more details may emerge as the case progresses.

The shooting has left the community in shock, especially given the complex nature of the relationship between Cobb and Osborne, who shared two children together.

Telvin Osborne Once Said He’d Rather Sleep With a Dog Than a Black Woman—Now He’s Dead, and Social Media Has Thoughts

The fatal shooting of Telvin Osborne has ignited a storm of reactions across social media, not only due to the circumstances of his death but also because of his past comments disparaging Black women. Many online users have expressed mixed feelings, with some showing no sympathy for Osborne, citing his own words as evidence of deep-seated self-hatred.

Telvin Osborne, a 30-year-old father from Burke County, Georgia, was shot and killed by his 28-year-old girlfriend, Hannah Cobb. Initially, Cobb claimed the shooting was accidental, stating she had been cleaning her firearm after a night out at a club. However, after further investigation and mounting public outrage, authorities charged her with involuntary manslaughter.

Sheriff Alfonzo Williams reported that the shooting followed a night of drinking and a heated argument between Osborne and Cobb. While details of their altercation remain under investigation, social media users have focused on a different aspect of the case—Osborne’s documented disdain for Black women and his apparent preference for white women.

Following news of Osborne’s death, past statements attributed to him began circulating online, sparking heated debates. A resurfaced quote, allegedly from Osborne, stated:

“I’ll f a dog before I f* a Black b**h. It gotta be a white dog tho.”

This statement, along with other remarks praising white women while denigrating Black women, has fueled a polarizing response to his death. Some social media users expressed sadness over his tragic fate, while others pointed out what they saw as the irony of his demise at the hands of the very demographic he exalted.

The online response has been overwhelmingly critical, with many users condemning Osborne’s words and suggesting that his fate was the result of internalized racism.

One Twitter user expressed disappointment, revealing a personal connection to Osborne:

“This one hurts because this is my man’s family but I still gotta tell the truth. Ole boy Telvin was on some coon st with his praise of the white womens. This is just like that Nigerian dude that got poked up by his white ‘blessing’ then we found all the ‘akatas’. Damn, Telbo…”

Another user explicitly called for Black women to withhold sympathy, pointing to his past remarks:

“Black women, remember to drink water and mind your business when it comes to sympathy for Telvin Osborne being killed by his white girlfriend, Hannah Cobb. He hated you and left the proof. Good riddance to both of them.”

A different perspective highlighted the broader issue of self-hatred disguised as preference:

“I don’t care about anyone having preferences (I have one), but there’s something wrong with most Black men who have a preference, as they almost always invariably say things like this. And look what happened to him. #TelvinOsborne. And she’s not even a pretty white woman at that.”

Another user criticized the underlying psychology of such views:

“A lot of men are like Telvin Osborne. They say dating white women is their ‘preference’ when in reality, it’s just their hatred for Black women. But let someone speak about their Black mother that way. You can date white women without having to disparage Black women.”

Osborne’s case has reopened discussions about internalized racism and the ways in which some individuals distance themselves from their own racial identity. Many have pointed out that there is a stark difference between having a dating preference and actively degrading one’s own race.

In the Black community, particularly among men, there is an ongoing debate about whether certain preferences are rooted in genuine attraction or in social conditioning that equates whiteness with desirability. Osborne’s statements exemplify an extreme case of this issue, leading some to argue that his tragic end was a direct consequence of the mindset he promoted.

While Cobb has been charged with involuntary manslaughter, many are questioning whether justice will truly be served. Some argue that her actions were intentional and should be met with harsher legal consequences. Others believe that Osborne’s past rhetoric has tainted public perception of the case, making it unlikely that his death will receive the same level of outrage as other domestic violence incidents.

As the investigation continues, one thing is certain—Osborne’s case has sparked a broader discussion about race, self-worth, and the consequences of the ideologies we choose to uphold. Whether one mourns his passing or views it as a cautionary tale, the conversation surrounding his life and death is far from over.
