Big East Tournament seeding comes into focus for Seton Hall and UConn

The Big East Tournament is a week away and the seedings are becoming crystallized.
Two-time defending NCAA champion UConn (21-9, 13-6) moved up to the No. 3 seed by virtue of its season sweep of Marquette that culminated in a 72-66 victory Wednesday.
If the tournament began today, UConn would face the winner between No. 6 Villanova (18-13, 11-9) and No. 11 Seton Hall (7-23, 2-17) in the final quarterfinal next Thursday night.
UConn would also avoid a semifinal matchup with No. 1 St. John’s, which swept the regular-season series with the Huskies.
The Hall, meantime, is now officially in the Big East basement — and may once again have to play the last game next Wednesday night.
With DePaul’s 80-77 win at Providence Wednesday night, Seton Hall moved into 11th place in the 11-team Big East.
As things now stand, they would face No. 6 Villanova at 9 p.m. Wednesday in the first round.
No. 10 DePaul would face No. 7 Georgetown at 6:30 on Wednesday, with the winner to meet No. 2 Creighton.
Seton Hall can move back into 10th place — and hurt the Huskies in the process — if they win at UConn on Saturday, but that seems like a big ask considering they have lost five straight.
