Sounders host Antigua in Concacaf Champions Cup, holding a 3-1 lead.

SOUNDERS 1 (4), ANTIGUA 1 (2): Jose Galvez scored just before halftime to keep it interesting. The play was originally ruled offside, but VAR overturned the call to put the goal on the board.

SOUNDERS 1 (4), ANTIGUA 0 (1): Pedro de la Vega got his second goal of the season, putting away his own rebound after working a nice give-and-go with Jordan Morris.

LINEUPS: The Sounders made seven changes from their weekend match, but will give Jordan Morris, Yeimar Gomez Andrade, Jackson Ragen and Alex Roldan a third start of the week. Among the changes are Jon Bell, Danny Leyva, João Paulo and Andrew Thomas getting their first starts of the season.

The Seattle Sounders come into tonight’s game in an enviable position, thanks to a 3-1 road win the first leg of their Concacaf Champions Cup series with Antigua GFC. The Sounders simply need to avoid giving up at least three goals to move on, but even if they do that would still be in solid position to advance as long as they can score a few goals of their own.

The biggest complicating factor promises to be fixture congestion. The Sounders will be playing their third match in the space of one week, while Antigua will be playing just their second match in the past two weeks.

Even a rotated lineup, though, should give the Sounders a solid chance to move on. Among the Leg 1 starters who came off the bench over the weekend were Pedro de la Vega, Jesús Ferreira and Paul Arriola.

Here are the scenarios for the Sounders to advance:

Seattle Sounders FC carry a 3-1 aggregate lead over Guatemalan side Antigua into Wednesday’s decisive Leg 2 of their Concacaf Champions Cup Round One series.

The winner advances to the Round of 16 against LIGA MX side Cruz Azul, who have already advanced via a 7-0 aggregate Round One victory over Haitian side Real Hope. If needed, the away goals rule is in effect.

Ten MLS clubs are participating in the 27-team continental tournament that grants a spot in the 2029 FIFA Club World Cup and the 2025 FIFA Intercontinental Cup. The single-match final will be held on June 1.

The 2022 CCC champs looked like early-tournament favorites last week in Leg 1, thanks to a comprehensive 3-1 victory at Estadio Pensativo in Guatemala.

New offseason signing Paul Arriola set the tone by scoring in the 3rd minute, while Pedro de la Vega and Albert Rusnák struck in the second half to seal the result.

It’s do or die for Antigua in Seattle, where the Sounders will have a comfortable aggregate lead and the Lumen Field crowd in their favor.

But the four-time Guatemalan champions will be more rested, having skipped league action this past weekend. Seattle, meanwhile, played to a 2-2 home draw on Saturday against Charlotte FC during Matchday 1 of the MLS season.
