SNL 50 Red Carpet Fashion: See Every Celebrity Arrive

Image

From Adam Sandler to Amy Poehler, A-list comedians are hitting the red carpet for SNL 50: The Anniversary Special in New York Feb. 16. See every star arrive.

You can feel the excitement in your funny bones.

To mark the 50th anniversary of Saturday Night Live, Hollywood stars hit the red carpet in New York for SNL 50: The Anniversary Special, a three-hour show that aired on Peacock and airing on NBC Feb. 16. The special honored the best—and most hilarious—moments from the iconic sketch program over the years.

And several A-list comedians were a barrel of laughs as they got the party started on the red carpet, with comedians Tina Fey, Taran Killam, Andrew Dismukes, Sasheer Zamata, Rob Riggle and Jim Gaffigan among the first to arrive.

Inside, Jonas Brothers member Nick Jonas and comedian Bowen Yang caught up and posed for a pic together.

Several Saturday Night Live alums also headed back to their old stomping grounds, including Adam Sandler, Amy Poehler, Andy Samberg, Chris Rock, Fred Armisen, Jimmy Fallon, Kate McKinnon, Kristen Wiig, Maya Rudolph, Molly Shannon, Seth Meyers and Will Ferrell, who all attended the event.

But according to Amy, who joined SNL in 2001, even she was surprised by what creator Lorne Michaels had in store.

“I’m not ready, and I know absolutely nothing. It is typical SNL,” she joked to Today Feb. 10. “Today is Monday, the show is Sunday, so of course nothing’s ready.”

“Maybe there’s a pet turtle that Lorne has told the show to,” Amy quipped. “But no, they are putting together a huge amount of ideas.”

But more than the sketches, she was ready to reunite with old pals.

“It’s been so awesome to be back and with my class of people,” the 53-year-old added. “I love them dearly and get to work with them a lot, but just being around all the people that I love and grew up with is so exciting.”

Indeed, she wasn’t the only one getting in on the action. Former hosts and celeb fans joined the fun, ranging from musicians including Bad Bunny, Miley Cyrus and Sabrina Carpenter to actors including Adam Driver, Ayo Edebiri, Pedro Pascal, Tom Hanks and Woody Harrelson.

And naturally, you could count on Scarlett Johansson to be on hand to support—or troll—her husband Colin Jost, writer and star of the “Weekend Update” segment.

Another celebrity who was doing amazing on the red carpet? Kim Kardashian, who also made her grand return to Studio 8H in Rockefeller Center after hosting SNL in October 2021.

“It was such an amazing experience, like, euphoric,” Kim said on The Kardashians after her gig. “There’s just so many people, like, everywhere and it’s this rush.”

She added, “I’m just so excited that it’s over and I didn’t mess up one time, and I just had fun.”

Of course, it was also the setting of her meet-cute with Pete Davidson, who she dated for nine months until their split in 2022.

“It was a stage kiss, but it was still a little zing,” Kim said on the Not Skinny But Not Fat podcast in April 2022. “It wasn’t anything like a super, crazy feeling…A few days later, I was like, ‘Hmm, there is some BDE action.'”

Colin Jost and Scarlett Johansson enjoyed a date night at the SNL50: The Anniversary Special.

The couple were among the stars in New York City on Feb. 16 to celebrate half a century of the iconic sketch comedy show in New York City. Both the SNL star and the Black Widow actress dressed in black for the special evening. Jost opted for a classic tuxedo, while his wife wore a black gown with a jewel-lined upper bodice.

For the big night, Jost worked on a number of elements of the show, while Johansson appeared beside Kim Kardashian, Ana Gasteyer, and Kristen Wiig as the Maharelle Sisters.

This night was particularly special for the pair because they met on the set of SNL in 2006. At the time, Johansson was making her hosting debut on the sketch comedy show (she later became a member of the “Five-Timers Club”) and Jost was in his first year working in the writer’s room.

They remained friends after but weren’t romantically linked until March 2017 when the movie star made a special guest appearance on SNL’s season finale. While Page Six reported that the two were seen kissing at the afterparty, Jost declined to comment on the relationship rumors at the time.

Later that year, the same month the Marvel star finalized her divorce from ex-husband Romain Dauriac, the comedian opened up about their romance.

“She’s pretty cool … it’s hard to have a lot of complaints, she’s pretty awesome,” he told Entertainment Tonight at the 2017 Emmy Awards. “I’m very happy. I feel very lucky.”

They finally made their public debut in November 2017, posing for photos together at the American Museum of Natural History Gala in New York City. A friend of Jost’s told PEOPLE at the time that the pair were “in love,” and the following month, they confirmed the relationship on SNL.

In an episode hosted by Kevin Hart on Dec. 16, 2017, Johansson surprised viewers by appearing in the cold open as Ivanka Trump, whom she had previously portrayed during a mock ad for a perfume called “Complicit.” At the end, Jost wrapped his arm around the actress’ shoulder and his “Weekend Update” co-host Michael Che shared a video of after it aired.

“murrrrr xmas!!,” Che wrote alongside the clip of the couple holding hands.

In December 2019, Johansson used her sixth hosting gig on SNL to share a sweet sentiment about Jost after he had recently proposed.

“This place means so much to me,” she said. “I have so many friends here and I met the love of my life here,” concluding with an adorable hug and kiss with Jost.

They married in October 2020, celebrating with an intimate ceremony amid the COVID-19 pandemic. When they got pregnant with their first child together the following year, they kept quiet with the exception of a brief mention during one of Jost’s SNL skits.

“Ok ok, we had a baby… His name is Cosmo,” Jost wrote when announcing the arrival of their baby on his Instagram in August 2021.

Johansson has since been a topic of several “Weekend Updates” — most recently when Che and Jost wrote each other’s jokes for the Christmas episode this past December. During the segment, cameras even honed in on Johansson to capture her reaction.

While reading his cue cards, Jost said, “Hey boo, y’all know Scarlett just celebrated her 40th birthday, which means I’m about to get up out of there! Nah, nah. I’m just playing. We just had a kid together, and y’all ain’t see no pictures of him yet ’cause he Black as hell.”

Another joke about his wife came later in the segment: “Costco has removed their roast beef sandwich from their menu,” Jost read. “But I ain’t tripping, I be eating roast beef every night since my wife had the kid.”

On camera, Johansson appeared shocked but was a good sport, mouthing “Oh my god,” as Jost hid his face in his hands.

Jost later told Jimmy Fallon that while he didn’t get to see the jokes in advance, the SNL team had given Johansson “heads up” about potential R-rated content.

“They were like, ‘Hey, would you be okay if Michael made a little, like, kind of vagina joke at some point?’” Jost shared. “She was like, ‘Sure, whatever, I’m open to it.’ I didn’t know where it was going.”
