Pacers’ Tyrese Haliburton, T.J. McConnell listed as questionable against Raptors
INDIANAPOLIS — Pacers point guards Tyrese Haliburton and T.J. McConnell are both listed as questionable for Wednesday’s home game against the Raptors with injuries, according to the Pacers’ social media accounts and the NBA’s official injury report.
McConnell missed Monday’s game — which the Pacers lost to the Nuggets — with a right ankle sprain suffered in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s win over the Clippers. Haliburton is listed as questionable with left groin soreness. A mild groin strain cost Haliburton the only game he has missed this year. He sat out the second half of the Pacers’ game against the Cavaliers in Cleveland on Jan. 12 because of the strain and then missed the home game against the Cavs on Jan. 14 but has been in the lineup every game since.
Haliburton, the two-time All-Star and 2023-24 third-team All-NBA pick — has had ups and downs this season but has started off the post-All-Star-break period exceptionally well. In the Pacers’ three game since the break, he’s averaging 23.3 points per game on 57.1% shooting, including 44.8% from 3-point range. He’s made all nine of his free throws in that stretch and he’s also averaging 12.0 assists and 2.3 steals per game, helping the Pacers to wins over the Grizzlies and Clippers before the loss to Denver. On the season, his numbers are still down from last year but he’s catching up, averaging 18.1 points per game on 45.6% shooting including 37.4% from 3-point range to go with 8.7 assists per game.
McConnell’s numbers are also slightly down from last season, but he’s still one of the NBA’s most productive bench players. He’s averaging 9.8 points per game on 52.5% shooting as well as 4.5 assists and 1.1 steals per game. He ranks ninth among all bench players in the NBA in total points (531), first in assists (245) and second in steals (61).
The Pacers managed to split all the point guard minutes Monday night between Haliburton and third-year guard Andrew Nembhard, a point guard by trade who starts at shooting guard but serves as a secondary ball-handler in the Pacers’ starting lineup and frequently brings the ball up regardless of who else is on the floor. Haliburton played 40 minutes in the game, however, and Nembhard played 27. If both Haliburton and McConnell are out the Pacers might have to rely on extensive minutes from RayJ Dennis, a rookie from Baylor on a two-way contract with the Mad Ants. Dennis was called up for Monday’s game against the Nuggets but did not appear.

Halftime Rewind: Pacers 51, Raptors 41
Wednesday, Feb. 26 at 7:00 PM ET at Gainbridge Fieldhouse
A dominant shooting display by Tyrese Haliburton has helped the Indiana Pacers overcome a sloppy start against the Toronto Raptors.
Haliburton has 17 points on 6-for-8 shooting at halftime, including 5-of-7 from 3-point range, as the Pacers (34-24) hold a 51-41 lead over the Raptors (18-40) at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.
Indiana has 11 turnovers at intermission but is holding the Raptors to 35.4 percent shooting. The Pacers are shooting 48.7 percent overall.
After Haliburton, Pascal Siakam, Myles Turner, and Bennedict Mathurin each have eight points for the Blue & Gold. Ochai Agbaji tops the visitors with eight points, and Jakob Poeltl, Gradey Dick, and Orlando Robinson have six points each.
Indiana overcame nine turnovers in the first quarter by making six 3-pointers, leading 26-24 by the end of the frame. Haliburton shot 4-for-5 from 3-point range in the first quarter and Turner made a pair of attempts from beyond the arc to start.
The Pacers led 22-14 midway through the frame thanks to two threes by Haliburton and free throws by Mathurin, but a 10-4 Raptors run in the final four minutes of the opening period narrowed the score to a possession.
Neither team could get much separation in the second quarter until the Blue & Gold mustered a 15-6 run in the final 4:52 of the half.
During the scoring spree, Haliburton scored five points and Siakam and Mathurin added four each.
Indiana is winning the rebounding margin 24-22 but has been outscored 24-18 in the paint thus far.
On the injury front, T.J. McConnell is out tonight for the Pacers for a second straight game due to a sprained ankle and Raptors forward Scottie Barnes is sidelined with a hip contusion.

Even though they lost, the Pacers were working as a unit and finished the game with 29 assists. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they’ve now posted at least 25 assists in 19 consecutive matchups. Indiana is averaging 28.9 assists per game this season, which ranks sixth in the NBA. The Pacers are 5-1 in their last six games against an opponent from the Eastern Conference.
