Another wicket in the first powerplay for Matt Henry. He has now 72 wickets in this phase at an average of 22.56. In ODIs since the start of 2000, only two bowlers (minimum of 50 wickets) have a better average than Henry’s in this phase of the game – Glenn McGrath (100 wickets at 20.01) and Shane Bond (65 wickets at 21.29).
Target 363
Another quiet over from Matt Henry, who earlier took the opening wicket of Ryan Rickelton.
South Africa have stalled a bit since then.

It didn’t look like the body language of a team that thinks they can win this chase.
Pommie Mbangwa
Former Zimbabwe fast bowler on BBC Sounds
The body language of the South Africans when they were leaving the field was terrible.
Target 363
A much-needed boundary for Temba Bavuma, finally finding his timing with a clip through mid-wicket off Kyle Jamieson.
Pommie Mbangwa
Former Zimbabwe fast bowler on BBC Sounds
I’d expect Temba Bavuma to do something around about now. He hasn’t really played with any intent, he hasn’t looked to try and hit it over anyone yet. He’s just tapping it around.
Target 363
That wicket takes Matt Henry to the top of the charts in this Champions Trophy, with nine scalps ahead of Mohammed Shami’s eight.
Pommie Mbangwa
Former Zimbabwe fast bowler on BBC Sounds
It was a straight forward catch, Matt Henry’s done it again.
Matt Henry is a very good operator, just making use of lines. A couple of times Ryan Rickelton got some boundaries away but I don’t think that one was quite the right length for him. You have to be right on it to get those away.
Rickelton c Bracewell b Henry 17 (SA 20-1)
Soft.
Ryan Rickelton was playing so fluently, so he is understandably frustrated with his dismissal.
A good length delivery from Matt Henry holds in the wicket slightly and Rickelton just prods it straight to cover.
His strike-rate was taking the pressure off the struggling Temba Bavuma in that partnership, so Bavuma has got to step up now.
Rickelton caught and dismissed for 17

Ryan Rickelton is a pretty neat player.
Target 363
The opening pair’s contrasting innings continue.
Temba Bavuma hasn’t got a clue against Kyle Jamieson, eventually getting off strike with a streaky edge to deep third, before Ryan Rickelton flicks off his pads for another boundary.
Pommie Mbangwa
Former Zimbabwe fast bowler on BBC Sounds
No doubt that Temba Bavuma will be feeling the pressure, despite his experience he’ll be searching for a boundary.
Simon Mann
BBC Test Match Special commentator on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra
Ryan Rickelton seems to be playing a completely different game to Temba Bavuma.
Target 363
Temba Bavuma gets off the mark with a quick single from his 10th ball, before Ryan Rickelton unveils another glorious straight drive for four to spoil Matt Henry’s over.
South Africa have such a powerful middle order but they will need a good platform in order to unleash.
Pommie Mbangwa
Former Zimbabwe fast bowler on BBC Sounds
That’s impressive from Kyle Jamieson. A maiden to start on a pitch you know you can get 350 on.
Target 363
Kyle Jamieson starts with a maiden to Temba Bavuma.
Pommie Mbangwa
Former Zimbabwe fast bowler on BBC Sounds
When you bat first, there isn’t the pressure of the board. There’s only the pressure of the conditions. You’ve got time to be cautious and get used to them.
Jonathan Agnew
BBC Chief Cricket Commentator
Runs on the board in a semi-final does count for a lot.
Target 363
Lovely.
That is much more convincing from Rickelton, effortlessly pushing the ball past the bowler and down the ground for four.
Ryan Rickelton safely defends the first ball from Matt Henry, before getting a slice of luck from the second with an inside edge past his stumps for four.
It’s not convincing, but South Africa are under way.

Rachin Ravindra smashed his second century of the tournament • ICC/Getty Images
5 Hundreds for Rachin Ravindra in ODIs, all in ICC tournaments: three in the 2023 World Cup and two in this Champions Trophy.
No one else has scored their first five ODI hundreds in ICC tournaments. Bangladesh’s Mahmudullah made all his four ODI hundreds at ICC tournaments.
67.00 Ravindra’s batting average in ICC ODI tournaments (World Cup and Champions Trophy) – 804 runs in 13 innings with two fifties and five hundreds. It is the highest average among 80 batters with a minimum of 750 runs in these tournaments.
362 for 6 New Zealand’s total against South Africa is the highest by any team at the Champions Trophy, surpassing Australia’s 356 for 5 against England, also in Lahore in this tournament. It is also New Zealand’s highest against South Africa in ODIs. And only once have South Africa conceded a higher total in ICC ODI tournaments – 377 for 6 against Australia in the 2007 World Cup.
3 Number of totals in ODI knockouts, higher than New Zealand’s 362 for 6. The highest is 397 for 4 by India against New Zealand in the 2023 ODI World Cup semi-final.
3 Hundreds for Kane Williamson in his last three ODI innings against South Africa. He is the first player to score a hat-trick of hundreds against South Africa in this format. Williamson had unbeaten hundreds in his previous two innings against them – 106 not out in the 2019 World Cup and 133* in the 2025 tri-series in Pakistan.
167.57 Williamson’s strike rate in his last 37 balls in the Champions Trophy semi-final against South Africa. He scored 62 runs with seven fours and two sixes after striking at only 70.18 in his first 57 balls (40 runs with three fours).
65 Runs conceded by Keshav Maharaj in his ten overs, the most he has conceded in an ODI since his debut against England in 2017, when he gave away 72 runs.
65 Innings since New Zealand last had a century partnership for the opening wicket in ODIs – 106 between Martin Guptill and Henry Nicholls against India in February 2020.
New Zealand is one of three teams in men’s ODIs without a century opening stand in this period – Canada (20 matches) and Jersey (5) being the others.
31.55 New Zealand’s opening partnership average since their last century stand in ODIs, the lowest among the teams in the ongoing Champions Trophy, and the third lowest among Full-Member teams.
“Gaddafi Stadium Knocked Out Of Champions Trophy”: Memes Galore As India Enter ICC Event Final
With India defeating Australia in the semifinal of the Champions Trophy 2025 with a four-wicket victory in Dubai on Tuesday, Pakistan will not be able to organize the final of the event of which they were the host. As per the hybrid formula agreed by Pakistan and ICC, the final now will be played in Dubai, instead of the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, Pakistan. This has resulted in Indian fans trolling Pakistan on social media, making fun of the hosts missing their own party.

India played all their matches in Dubai and it was agreed before the start of the tournament that India will not travel to Pakistan and thus the final will be played in Dubai if India was in contention.
