Ruben Amorim reaction: What did Manchester United manager say after dramatic win vs Ipswich?

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim once again cut a frustrated figure on the sidelines during their clash against Ipswich Town on Wednesday.

But he was celebrating at the final whistle after a 3-2 win saw United prevail despite having Patrick Dorgu sent off in the first half.

At this point United are fully-focused on finishing in the top 10 of the Premier League and this win obviously helped that, but it was far from straightforward as they went behind early and then conceded an equalizer right on half time just before Dorgu was sent off.

Here’s what Amorim had to say after United showed some character to hold on for victory.

“Today I’m not frustrated. With the situations of the game of course you get a little bit frustrated, because we were controlling the game,” Amroim told TNT Sports in the UK. “We suffered one mistake, that can happen. Since the first minute I felt the players were fine. They were trying to play, we managed to score two goals and then the sending off changed the game. But the fight the guys showed, and especially our fans helped us a lot, I think we fully deserved the three points today.”

He was asked about United’s captain Bruno Fernandes saying you have to suffer as a United player right.

“Of course we have to enjoy this life but there is some moments that are really hard. But that is natural in every profession. You have to suffer in some moments to enjoy the good moments also. We have to pass this moment. We have to think just in the next game. Not think in the past or in the future. Let’s think in the moment. We won this game. Let’s prepare for the next one,” Amorim added.

Patrick Dorgu, who has shown plenty of promising signs early on in his United career, was sent off and made a big mistake early as he suffered a mix-up with Andre Onana. Asked about if Dorgu was ready for the Premier League, Amorim backed the young Danish wing-back.

“He’s ready because he proved in the last games,” Amorim said. “Any player can have a mistake like today and Patrick [Dorgu], the sending off, he wants to play the ball. Maybe he’s a little bit harsh the way he went for the ball. He’s clearly ready but he’s inexperienced for the Premier League. People judge right away. Last week he was okay, good performance against Everton. Today they will say he is not experienced enough to play Premier League. I don’t feel that.”

Asked what he can take away from the win and the performance moving forward, Amorim was both pleased and pragmatic.

“It was just a game. What I felt is that we start the game in a different way. You can feel it in the way we controlled the possession. We were more calm with the ball. Minus the goal. That gives more credit to my players. Even with that goal we managed to control the game, the tempo of the game, to create situations. And then to turn things around they did a great job.”
