Anne Hathaway and Josh Hartnett are officially filming Verity!
The upcoming psychological thriller is based on a book of the same name by It Ends with Us author Colleen Hoover. It features Hathaway, 42, as author Verity Crawford, who is married to Hartnett’s Jeremy Crawford.
In one photo, the on-screen couple can be seen dressed in semi-formal attire, happily running through the streets of New York City together as they hold hands with each another.

Hartnett, 46, leads the way as an unfastened bow tie hangs from the collar of his button-down top. Hathaway holds onto her belongings with her free hand.
Casting for the Devil Wears Prada star as Verity was announced in November 2024, while the Trap actor’s news was shared the following month.
Dakota Johnson will not only executive produce the Amazon MGM Studios movie, but will also star as Lowen, a down-and-out writer who gets the “job offer of a lifetime” to finish Verity’s successful series after a “mysterious accident” has left her unable to do so, per the official synopsis.

Before the cast was announced, Hoover, 45, spoke to The Hollywood Reporter at the premiere of It Ends With Us — her first book-to-movie adaptation to hit the big screen — in August 2024 about the process.
“Right now, they’re all just blurs in my head,” the best-selling author shared with the outlet at the time. “But I’m so excited that this one’s finally starting to take off.”
Verity, which was self-published in 2018, follows Lowen as a family secret makes her question the job and her safety.

“Upon arrival at the lavish Crawford estate, Lowen slowly learns that things are not exactly as they seem with the discovery of a secret, unfinished manuscript that may divulge chilling admissions about the family’s past. As Lowen ingratiates herself with Jeremy and his young son Crew, she must discern if Verity’s writings are merely lurid works of fiction or an ominous warning by a deranged psychopath,” the synopsis adds.
The thriller will be directed by Michael Showalter, who previously directed Hathaway in Prime Video’s The Idea of You.

First Look at Verity Shows Anne Hathaway and Josh Hartnett on Set of Colleen Hoover Adaptation
Verity stars Anne Hathaway and Josh Hartnett were spotted filming scenes for the upcoming Colleen Hoover adaptation. See the first look photos of the movie, which also stars Dakota Johnson.
Anne Hathaway and Josh Hartnett are giving us the idea of Verity.
The Idea of You actress and Pearl Harbor actor stepped out in Queens, N.Y., to film scenes for the forthcoming Colleen Hoover adaptation, and the first look at their characters certainly did not disappoint.
For the Feb. 27 filming day, Anne—who plays Verity Crawford, a bestselling author who is unable to finish her latest novel after getting into a car accident—wore a semi-sheer white maxi dress with a drop-waist belt and cutout near the neck. To top off her costume, the 42-year-old rocked a short bob hairstyle and black sunglasses.
As for Josh—who is taking on the role of Verity’s husband, Jeremy Crawford—the 46-year-old held onto a cup of coffee while sporting dark gray jeans, a navy sweater and a copper-toned T-shirt that poked out underneath. At another point during shooting, the Oppenheimer star—sporting a sleek, ear-length haircut—stepped out in a second ensemble: a navy blue suit paired with brown dress shoes and a gray polo sweater.
And the duo linked up later on in the day as well. In another photo, Anne and Josh were also seen filming what appears to be Verity and Jeremy’s meet-cute scene, where the pair jump into a limo together after a charity event.
As for Dakota Johnson—who was cast as Lowen Ashleigh, the struggling writer who gets hired to finish Verity’s book—the 35-year-old was notably absent from the set of the film, which is being directed by Michael Showalter.
But that’s not to say fans haven’t been given any hints on what part she’ll play in the psychosexual thriller. After all, her character’s journey was previously highlighted in uncovered plot details for the book-turned-movie, which has not yet received a release date.
“Upon arrival at the lavish Crawford estate,” a logline for the film read, per Variety, “Lowen slowly learns that things are not exactly as they seem with the discovery of a secret, unfinished manuscript that may divulge chilling admissions about the family’s past.”
The logline added, “As Lowen ingratiates herself with Jeremy and his young son Crew, she must discern if Verity’s writings are merely lurid works of fiction or an ominous warning by a deranged psychopath.”

Though, with Prinze reprising his role as survivor Ray Bronson—Jennifer Love Hewitt is reportedly in talks to return as Julie James—this next generation has a better shot at making it out alive. Once she’s on the island, memories of the summer where her life changed forever start to come back—and the twists don’t end there. Making this all the more sinister? The film, like its release date, is set in a rapidly approaching 2025. We’re absolutely on board for this one—although a bit terrified, tbh.

Why We’re Excited: Henry has already taken women’s literature by storm in recent years, so it was only a matter of time before her novels got the big screen treatment. Verity
Based On: The 2021 book of the same name by Marissa Stapley

Why We’re Excited: If it’s based on a book and Kidman stars in it, we will binge the s–t out of it. (See: Big Little Lies, Nine Perfect Strangers, The Undoing and the fact that this is her second appearance on this list.) Add in that the Oscar winners will be playing crime-fighting sisters and it’s already become our favorite new show of the year.
Frankenstein
Based On: Mary Shelley’s iconic 1818 gothic horror
Starring: Jacob Elordi, Oscar Isaac, Mia Goth and Christoph Waltz
Premieres: TBD 2025 on Netflix
Why we’re excited: Knowing Isaac is starring as Victor Frankenstein and Elordi will play the monster himself is enough to have us seated already. Still, while there have been countless works based on the iconic novel, Guillermo Del Toro—whose vision will come to life at Netflix after nearly two decades—has proven time and time again that when it comes to gothic horror, nobody does it better.
Bridgerton Season 4

His & Hers
Based on: Alice Feeney’s 2020 Novel
Starring: Tessa Thompson, Jon Bernthal, Pablo Schreiber, Crystal Fox, Sunita Mani, and Rebecca Rittenhouse
Premieres: TBD on Netflix
Why We’re Excited: A twisty thriller that brings a recluse back to their hometown is always an immediate yes, and in this limited series, it’s Thompson’s Anna whose return following a murder captivates a local detective (new Emmy winner Bernthal) who is also investigating the crime.
Wuthering Heights
Based on: Emily Brontë’s 1847 novel
Release Date: February 13, 2026
Starring: Jacob Elordi and Margot Robbie
Why We’re Excited: Cue the Kate Bush classic, we’re heading back to the moors. Filmmaker Emerald Fennell is reteaming with her Saltburn collaborators—Elordi starred and Robbie produced—for a take on Catherine Earnshaw and Heathcliff that we’ve surely never seen before.
Project Hail Mary
Based On: Andy Weir’s 2021 novel of the same name
Starring: Ryan Gosling, Sandra Hüller and Milana Vayntrub
Release Date: March 20, 2026
Why We’re Excited: Sure, Gosling’s been to space as the first man, but his latest mission takes him out of this galaxy as he wakes up from a coma as the sole survivor in an expedition to the Tau Ceti solar system—a cool 12 light-years away from Earth. Things only get worse now that he’s solo and must continue his mission to reverse solar dimming and save humanity from extinction. NBD!
The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping
Based On: Suzanne Collins’ forthcoming book of the same name
Starring: TBD
Premieres: November 20, 2026
Why We’re Excited: On the same day Collins’ latest trip to Panem was announced (the book will drop in March 2025), Lionsgate confirmed it would be adapting the much-anticipated story following a young Haymitch Abernathy—Peeta and Katniss’ famously haunted mentor in the 74th Hunger Games—during his winning battle in the 50th Games.
The Housemaid
Based On: Freida McFadden’s 2022 novel
Starring: Sydney Sweeney, Amanda Seyfried, Brandon Sklenar and Michele Marrone
Premieres: TBD
Why We’re Excited: The cast alone is enough to have us seated for the adaptation, which follows a maid to a wealthy family with some very sinister secrets bubbling under the surface. But Paul Feig, who is no stranger to a twisty story with A Simple Favor—and its forthcoming sequel—is at the helm so it’s safe to say we’re in for quite a ride.
Verity
Based on: The 2021 book by Colleen Hoover
Starring: Anne Hathaway, Dakota Johnson and Josh Hartnett
Premieres: TBD
Why We’re Excited: For starters, we can look no further than Anne, Dakota and Josh. The book—which follows a struggling writer who is asked to complete a best-selling series after the author’s mysterious accident—is already a wild, twisty ride. And with this trio at the center, seeing it brought to life on screen is all the more exciting.
Margo’s Got Money Troubles
Based on: Rufi Thorpe’s 2024 novel
Starring: Elle Fanning, Michelle Pfeiffer and Nicole Kidman
Premieres: TBD on Apple TV+
Why we’re Excited: Is it really a limited series if it doesn’t have Kidman popping up in it? Thorpe’s book—following the daughter of a former Hooters waitress and a onetime pro-wrestler who turns to OnlyFans after becoming a single mom at 20—is already excellent on its own. But this casting has certainly placed this eight-episode series at the top of the must-watch list.

Anne Hathaway looked tense on the set of Verity, the next book by Colleen Hoover that is being adapted into a film.
The actress, 42, failed to raise a smile as she emerged from her trailer in New York on Thursday, looking ultra sophisticated in a chic white dress with textured neckline and her hair perfectly sleek.
She stepped out with a hardback book in one hand and the other carrying her floor length skirt, further showcasing her leopard print heels.
An assistant ensured Anne, who plays the title character, remained camera-ready by shielding her from the weather with an umbrella.
Meanwhile, Hathaway’s co-star Josh Hartnett, 46, was also seen arriving to the set, looking smart and casual in a navy crewneck sweater and jeans as he enjoyed a cup of Joe.
Filming on the movie has begun amid the legal drama stemming from another film adapted from a Hoover book – It Ends With Us.
Anne Hathaway looked tense on the set of Verity, the next book by Colleen Hoover that is being adapted into a film
Hathaway was announced as the lead in Verity in November, just a month before the legal drama between It Ends With Us leads Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni (who also directed the film) exploded.
Lively accused Baldoni of sexual harassment and orchestrating a smear campaign against her in a lawsuit filed in December while Baldoni accused Lively, her husband Ryan Reynolds, 48, and publicist Leslie Sloane of defamation and extortion in a $400 million suit filed last month.
Baldoni has denied the allegations from Lively, while Lively, Reynolds and Sloane have denied the accusations made by Baldoni.
The legal drama remains on-going.
Colleen is now said to be fearing for her future projects after her debut film adaptation found itself at the centre of a bitter legal spat between Blake and Justin, with the saga reportedly threatening the casting for her next film.
The popular author, 45, scrubbed Lively, 37, from her Instagram account earlier this month, including a statement in which she described the actress as ‘honest, kind, supportive and patient,’ after quietly returning to the platform amid the explosive fallout.
The ongoing saga has reportedly left Anne toying with the idea of pulling out of the upcoming adaptation of Hoover’s 2018 psychological thriller, Verity.
Insiders have told DailyMail.com that Hoover is terrified of the impact on current projects and fears it could be detrimental to future deals.

Co-star Josh Hartnett was also seen arriving to the set
Meanwhile, another film adapted from a Hoover book – It Ends With Us – remains at the center of legal controversy
‘The reason that Colleen scrubbed her social media accounts is because she doesn’t want this saga to impact any future film deals that she has in place, or that she is working on,’ an insider told DailyMail.com.
‘Yes, Anne Hathaway was on the fence when the It Ends with Us stuff exploded. Colleen knows how devastating this could be for her deals. This is why you will not see her take any sides.’
‘Colleen did support Blake during It Ends with Us and they did strike up a friendship. But she has also been friends with Justin for a very long time.’
Hoover and Baldoni had formed a friendship before he took the lead, and directing duties, on It Ends with Us.
‘It would have never become a movie if it wasn’t for Colleen’s friendship with Justin,’ a second source said. ‘If it were up to Justin, the film would have stayed completely aligned with the book.
‘Yes, Colleen didn’t necessarily agree with the changes but even then, she took a step back and let it play out. Ultimately, she will have nothing to do with this and for good reason. She writes the stories that everyone is interested in telling on the big screen.
‘At the end of the day, Colleen is still friends with Justin. She doesn’t talk to Blake. Some people feel she is a sell out for not taking sides.’
With regards to Hathaway, they added: ‘Colleen would not want any actors to shy away from playing a character in her adaptations because of this ongoing drama. This is another reason she is just not getting involved.’
According to Deadline, Verity focuses on a character named Lowen Ashleigh, a down-on-her-luck writer who gets an unexpected lifeline with a dream offer.
Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni have been embroiled in legal drama over their work on It Ends With Us for months
Verity Crawford (played by Hathaway) is a massively successful thriller writer, but her husband Jeremy asks Lowen to finish the final books in an ongoing series that Verity began after she has a mysterious and seemingly debilitating accident.
But once Lowen begins work at the couple’s opulent estate, she discovers a unfinished manuscript that threatens to reveal dark secrets about Verity and her husband’s pasts.
The young writer is forced to continue her work for Jeremy while trying to determine if Verity’s writings are merely fiction, or a disturbing warning from a dangerous woman.
Verity, which is described as a ‘psychosexual thriller,’ was self-published by Hoover in 2018.
The film adaptation also stars Josh as Jeremy and Dakota Johnson as Lowen.
Colleen, who holds the distinction of having the first self-published book to ever top the New York Times Best Seller list (2012’s Hopeless), also self-published Verity in 2018, before it was bought by Grand Central Publishing in 2021 after it had already become its own sensation.

I love that dress and especially those shoes! Love her hair. She is always so elegant and glamorous.
Hoover writes like a high school kid. I have no idea why her books are being made into films. I suppose we have dumbed down America to the point that people think a subpar book like Verity has literary merit.
Oh look, another movie I plan to ignore just like Another Simple Favor.
