WTA Indian Wells: Paolini makes last 16 to face Samsonova
Jasmine Paolini edged out Jaqueline Cristian 6-4, 3-6, 6-4. She’ll face No 24 seed Liudmila Samsonova in the next round
Italian Jasmine Paolini, the No 6 seed, edged out Romanian Jaqueline Cristian 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 to reach the last 16 of the BNP Paribas Open at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden on Monday.
Paolini, ranked No 6, will play No 24 seed Liudmila Samsonova next.
The Italian beat American wildcard Iva Jovic (7-6 (3), 1-6, 6-3) ahead of her win today.
Earlier in the week, Cristian, ranked No 79, won against Russian Veronika Kudermetova (6-2, 6-3) and Canadian Leylah Fernandez, the No 27 seed (5-7, 7-6 (5), 6-3).
