Blizzard & High Wind Warnings

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – A powerful storm system is continuing to impact eastern Iowa.

Temperatures continue to fall through the morning to near freezing as rain changes to snow from west to east. Winds will become extremely strong as this happens and remain strong through the day on Wednesday, gusting over 50 mph at times. Snow will continue through the morning, then taper off from west to east through the late morning and early afternoon hours.

The high winds and blowing snow have prompted the National Weather Service to place all of eastern Iowa under either a Blizzard Warning or Winter Weather Advisory. All of eastern Iowa has also been pllaced under a Wind Advisory or High Wind Warning due to gusty winds continuing even after the snow ends. If you can avoid travel today, please do so. Several schools and businesses have already closed for all of Wednesday. You can see a complete list of school and business closings on our website.

Temperatures will remain near freezing during the day, then drop into the upper teens and lower 20s tonight as skies become mostly clear and winds gradually decrease.

We start off mostly sunny on Thursday and climb into the low to mid 40s as clouds increase through the afternoon. Another storm system is expected to move across the plains from Colorado and bring us snow or a rain/snow mix starting Thursday night. There isn’t as much moisture available for this system, so snowfall amounts are generally expected to be light, but still watch for possible impacts for the Friday morning commute. Lows fall into the upper 20s and low 30s Thursday night, then climb into the mid to upper 30s on Friday.

We are expecting a mostly sunny weekend with highs in the 40s and 50s. Looking ahead to next week, temperatures are expected to climb well-above average with multiple days next week climbing into the 60s and lows in the mid 30s and 40s.

The powerful winds from Wednesday’s blizzard have made measuring snow difficult, but reports are starting to come in.

Here’s a look at totals in as of early Wednesday morning:

Remember that not all reports are received at the same time, so more snow could have accumulated since some of these measurements.

Got snow, but don’t see your town listed here? That’s likely because we haven’t received a report from there yet. You can send your snow totals to weather@kcci.com.

This just in: The latest addition to LEGO’s Architecture line is a highly-detailed version of Italy’s iconic Trevi Fountain. Yes, the landmark has been available as a LEGO set in the past, but that one featured a far simpler design and was retired nearly a decade ago.

This new and improved 2025 version released on March 1 and focuses on the intricate details that make the fountain so beloved. It makes a great gift for history buffs and travel lovers.

The miniature model of the Baroque fountain features the facade’s backdrop, minifigures that have been turned into statues, Corinthian-style columns, and a small “Lovers” Fountain. Our favorite details are the mini hippocampi made using off-white horse heads and the cascading water made from translucent bricks.

This new version of the Roman monument contains 1,880 pieces and is designed for display. LEGO sets like this one are crafted for ages 18 or older — and while the number of pieces may seem overwhelming, the step-by-step instruction book will make putting it together a snap.

Once finished, the fountain stands over 10 inches tall by 15 inches wide. It doesn’t come with a coin to toss in for good luck, but LEGO has a site dedicated to individual pieces for purchase. If you want to customize your finished product, this gold disc or this circular brick would do the trick.
