Travel not advised in parts of Iowa due to blizzard conditions; crashes reported

DES MOINES, Iowa — Blizzard conditions are causing issues on Iowa’s roadways Wednesday morning and travel is not advised in part of the state. The snow and strong winds are reducing visibility and making roads slippery.
The Iowa Department of Transportation is reporting multiple crashes as the winter storm works its way across the state. The DOT 511ia.org road conditions map shows travel is not advised in the western half of the state as of 4:50 a.m.

There are several crashes impacting travel on I-80 to the west of the Des Moines metro:
The DOT is also reporting some roads as impassable because of blowing and drifting snow:
Other central Iowa crashes and road issues being reported by the Iowa DOT:
In the Des Moines metro, a crash caused the right two lanes of I-80 westbound between Northwest 100th Street and IA 141 in Urbandale to be blocked. The westbound exit ramp to IA 141 was also blocked because of the emergency vehicles responding, but the crash was cleared around 6:00 a.m.
