Father of Mae Whitman’s Baby Revealed 6 Months After Welcoming Son
Six months after Mae Whitman announced the birth of her son Miles, the father of her child was revealed to be Carlos Valdes by her Parenthood costar Lauren Graham.
It looks like Mae Whitman is venturing into parenthood with a partner.
Months after announcing she welcomed her first baby, Miles, now 6 months, the father of the Parenthood alum’s son has been revealed to be Carlos Valdes.
In fact, Lauren Graham—who starred as Mae’s onscreen mother in Parenthood from 2010 to 2015—shared that the Duff actress and her little one are currently living on the East Coast to support Carlos’ latest career endeavor.
“They’re in New York now,” Lauren explained during a March 10 appearance on Dax Shephard’s Armchair Expert podcast. “Carlos, her baby daddy, is on Broadway in Hadestown, which I feel happy to plug because he’s fantastic in it, Carlos Valdes.”
Noting that she thinks Carlos—who played Mae’s love interest in the 2023 series Up Here—is “really great,” Lauren went on to explain that the family of three’s current locale is only temporary.
“They’re in New York for the next while and then she got this job in Ireland,” the Gilmore Girls alum continued. “So she’s in Ireland with the baby.”
And Lauren also provided some insight into how Mae, 36, has been juggling her work as an actress and life as a mom, quipping, “I still get a little thrill when she’ll text me back because it’s not a given.”
“She’s a mom now,” the 57-year-old added, “and she’s working and she’s in Ireland.”
Earlier this month, Carlos shared that he had recently become a new father—though he wanted to keep the details of his new chapter under wraps.
“Not a lot of people know this, but I’m a dad, a relatively new dad,” he told People in an interview published March 3. “And it’s my personal preference that I don’t share more beyond that.”
However, the Flash actor was willing to get candid about how he was handling life as a “Broadway dad.”
“Let me tell you, it’s not for the faint of heart!” Carlos confessed. “This life is pretty unforgiving when it comes to balancing it with parenting.”
One upside? The 35-year-old has been able to use his newfound father-son bond as inspiration for his role as Orpheus in Hadestown. As Carlos put it, “I’ve really put a lot of my own personal experience as a dad, and as a fan of my child, into Orpheus’ own naiveté of looking at the world.”

Lauren Graham Reveals Mae Whitman’s Up Here Costar Carlos Valdes Is Father of Baby Son Miles
The ‘Parenthood’ actress welcomed her first baby in August 2024

Mae Whitman’s Up Here costar Carlos Valdes is reportedly the father of her baby son, Miles.
The actress’ longtime friend and Parenthood costar Lauren Graham appeared on the Monday, March 10 episode of Dax Shepard’s podcast Armchair Expert where she revealed that the father of Whitman’s baby is Valdes. As Shepard, 50, and Graham, 57, talked about their mutual close friend Whitman, 36, the Gilmore Girls star noted that she’s a big fan of Valdes, 35.
“I’m envious of your relationship with Mae,” Shepard began. “Really?” Graham asked.
“First of all, it’s the sweetest relationship. It really is special,” the actor continued.
“It really is,” Graham replied, adding, “I still get a little thrill when she’ll text me back because it’s not a given. And she’s a mom now, and she’s working and she’s in Ireland.”

The two went on to profess how much they love Whitman, with Shepard saying he wants to meet Whitman’s baby son Miles “so bad.”
“I’m trying to think the last time [I saw her],” Graham continued. “They’re in New York now. Carlos, her baby daddy, is on Broadway in Hadestown, which I feel happy to plug because he’s fantastic in it, Carlos Valdes.”
“He’s really great,” Graham says of her TV daughter’s partner. “And so they’re in New York for the next while and then she got this job in Ireland. So she’s in Ireland with the baby.”
A rep for Whitman and Valdes did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment on their relationship status.
Whitman and Valdes welcomed their first baby together, son Miles, back in August 2024. Whitman revealed at the time that she’d named her son after her best friend Miles Heizer, who costarred as her brother Drew Holt in Parenthood.
The pair previously played loved interests in the short-lived Hulu series Up Here.

Earlier this month, Valdes spoke to PEOPLE about starring in Hadestown and revealed that he’d also recently welcomed a baby.
“Not a lot of people know this, but I’m a dad, a relatively new dad,” he said. “And it’s my personal preference that I don’t share more beyond that, but being a Broadway dad… let me tell you, it’s not for the faint of heart! This life is pretty unforgiving when it comes to balancing it with parenting.”
Valdes noted he’d turned to fellow Hadestown alum Jordan Fisher for advice on balancing the play with being a parent. The To All the Boys: P.S. I Still Love You actor was Valdes’ predecessor in Hadestown and offered him some “invaluable” advice about how to approach the role of Orpheus.
“We had our little sentimental ‘passing of the torch’ conversation and one of the many things he imparted to me in that conversation was that as dads, we have a superpower in playing Orpheus because we can allow the fruits of that experience color our approach to this very childlike character in a very natural and informed way,” Valdes said. “And since I started in the show on Jan. 14, he could not be more correct.”
“I’ve really put a lot of my own personal experience as a dad, and as a fan of my child, into Orpheus’ own naiveté of looking at the world,” he added. “So I’m very grateful to Jordan for extending that wisdom.”

Lauren Graham Reveals Carlos Valdes is the Father of Mae Whitman’s Son
The father of Mae Whitman’s son has been revealed — but Whitman isn’t the one who dished!!
While speaking to Parenthood costar Dax Shepard on the actor’s “Armchair Expert” podcast, Whitman’s good friend Lauren Graham accidentally dropped Carlos Valdes’ name as the father of her child. (Whitman has never publicly disclosed the identity of the baby’s dad.)
After Shepard said that he hadn’t yet had the chance to meet Whitman’s baby, Graham said, “I’m trying to think of the last time [I saw her]. They’re in New York now. Carlos, her baby daddy, is on Broadway in Hadestown, which I feel happy to plug because he’s fantastic in it, Carlos Valdes.”
“He’s really great,” Graham continued. “And so they’re in New York for the next while and then she got this job in Ireland. So she’s in Ireland with the baby.”
Whitman, 36, announced her son’s birth in August 2024. “Not to be a Bieber about it but I too just gave birth to our son, Miles. From the moment we heard the first tiny sound out of his tiny piggy mouth we were besotted,” she wrote on Instagram, while making a reference to the birth of Justin and Hailey Bieber’s baby around the same time.
“He is the kindest, gentlest, smartest, funniest little beebee and he’s our best friend (pretty much exactly like his namesake Uncle Miles @younggoth),” she continued.
Whitman’s baby boy was named after her Parenthood costar and good friend Miles Heizer. The pair played siblings Amber and Drew Holt on the series, which aired for five years from 2010 to 2015. Graham played their mom, Sarah Braverman.
Whitman, Heizer and Graham have stayed close since the show wrapped. “This cast is my real family,” Whitman told Glamour in 2014. “He’s lived with me for two years. He’s pretty special. I’ll kill him before I let him leave. He’s the most talented musician and actor. I see him taking off — not to mention he’s crazy hot, which is gross ’cause he’s like my little brother. I envision wanting to live in a house next to him for my whole life and grow old down the street from him. I want our families to always be entwined.”
In fact, Graham and Heizer were even featured in Whitman’s pregnancy announcement. “Not to make a Parenthood episode out of it or anything but!!! Mother’s Day looking a little different this year! 🤰🏼” she wrote on Instagram in May 2024. “Can’t wait to meet you, huge baby kicking my insides to filth!”
