Aston Villa contract update emerges as top clubs circle Boubacar Kamara
Boubacar Kamara could soon be facing an uncertain future at Aston Villa following the latest update from The Athletic.
The midfielder returned to action as Aston Villa beat Club Brugge 3-1 in the first leg of their Champions League Round of 16 clash on Tuesday (4 March).
That came after the 25-year-old had missed several weeks of action due to suffered early on in the 1-1 draw with Ipswich Town at Villa Park last month.
Many Aston Villa fans had been gutted by the news of that injury to Kamara, and so they may now also be concerned about the latest update on the French international.
As things stand, there are just over two years remaining on the midfielder’s current contract which secures his future at Villa Park until the end of the 2026/27 season.
According to this report from The Athletic, Aston Villa are yet to hold any talks with Kamara over a new extension to his deal.
That comes amid an update that the 25-year-old is attracting interest from a number of top clubs in Europe who are eyeing a defensive midfielder, in the wake of his form for Unai Emery‘s side.
Aston Villa have faced issues with PSR recently, and it is also noted that Kamara is a player who would be a beneficial asset in that respect if his was to be sold.
Despite that it is suggested that Emery himself views a new contract as the preferred outcome when it comes to the situation around the future of Kamara.
Football Insider Verdict
It feels imperative for those in charge at Villa Park that they do agree a new contract with Kamara beyond the end of his current deal.
For starters, the midfielder has been one of if not the best performers for Aston Villa this season when he is fit.
He will therefore be integral if the club are going to build on the progress they have made in the past couple of seasons, if they are to become regular features in the latter stages of major competitions.
In that respect, securing a new deal for the midfielder would be a welcome show of intent, that would give Emery the sense he is being backed by the club.
Given the excellent job he has done, it feels important that Aston Villa do ensure they are doing that to make sure the Spaniard is also inclined to remain at Villa Park.
All of that could then certainly help the club in terms of the rewards they can reap, both from a football and financial perspective, which may help when it comes to that PSR situation.
