Lawyer Alan Dershowitz, still smarting from being called a wife killer by Jack Schlossberg, is not only threatening legal action, but also a full psychiatric evaluation of late president John F. Kennedy’s only grandson.
Speaking exclusively with DailyMail.com, the controversial defense attorney, 86, said his first goal in pursuing his defamation suit against the Kennedy scion is to determine whether Schlossberg was being an ‘arrogant’ provocateur when he shared a video falsely accusing Dershowitz of killing his wife earlier this month, or if he has legitimately lost his marbles.
Like many others who have witnessed the 32-year-old’s wild public rants on social media recently, Dershowitz is unsure what Schlossberg’s true intentions are, but plans to use the power of legal discovery to find out.
‘It seems to me like he’s just flipped out, but we’ll get discovery and find out about his mental health,’ Dershowitz said in interview Sunday.
‘If he’s mentally ill and he’s doing this as a result of mental illness, I’ll drop this lawsuit,’ he added.
‘But if he’s doing it because he’s nasty and arrogant and using me as a shill for his humor, then I’m going to proceed. He can’t go around saying that I killed my wife.’
Dershowitz has been married to Carolyn Cohen since 1986. His first wife Sue Barlach, with whom he shared two children, took her own life in 1983, a decade after they separated.
The former Harvard law professor and constitutional scholar is well acquainted with the Kennedy family as he famously defended Senator Ted Kennedy – Schlossberg’s great uncle – after his crash at Chappaquiddick killed a female passenger in 1969.
He has since gone on to represent Donald Trump at his first impeachment trial in 2020.
Prominent defense attorney Alan Dershowitz revealed he would not pursue legal action against Jack Schlossberg if it turns out the controversial Kennedy heir is mentally unwell
Schlossberg, 32, targeted Dershowitz in a bizarre social media rant earlier this month when he publicly accused the lawyer of killing his first wife and having close ties to convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein
He told DailyMail.com that he’s only met Schlossberg once during a friendly encounter at a gathering in Martha’s Vineyard years ago.
John Bouvier Kennedy Schlossberg, aka Jack, is the son of JFK’s daughter Caroline Kennedy – who served as the US Ambassador to Australia under President Joe Biden – and her husband Edwin Schlossberg, a designer and artist.
‘It was at a liberal democratic event at the home of Ken Feinberg,’ Dershowitz recalled, referring to the lawyer who served as chief of staff to Senator Ted Kennedy.
‘Jack was then a freshman at Harvard Law School and we had a very positive talk about Harvard with him telling me about his professors, the ones he liked, the ones he didn’t like,’ Dershowitz said.
‘It was a perfectly reasonable discussion, and I ended it by saying, “if there’s anything I can do to help you in your law career, give me a call, your mother knows how to reach me.”‘
Dershowitz had been close with the Kennedy family for decades.
‘Ted Kennedy was a friend of mine,’ the lawyer said. ‘Joe Kennedy was my student. I liked him very much and supported him when he ran (for U.S. Congress).’
He said the Kennedy clan rolled up the welcome mat in 2020 after he defended their nemesis Trump when he was accused of soliciting foreign interference in the presidential election.
Dershowitz said he is intent on determining whether Jack, pictured above with father Edwin Schlossberg in 2022, was being an ‘arrogant’ provocateur when he made the inflammatory statements or if the Kennedy heir has legitimately lost his marbles
Dershowitz has been married to second wife Carolyn Cohen (pictured) since 1986. His first wife Sue Barlach, with whom he shared two children, died by suicide in 1983, a decade after they separated
‘I had a good relationship with Caroline until one day she was seated next to me at a dinner party after I’d defended Donald Trump on the floor of the Senate,’ he remembered.
‘And she looked at me and said, “I’m polite so I’m not going to leave, but if I knew you were invited to this dinner party I would never have come.”
‘And I said to her, “is that because I defended Donald Trump?” and she replied, “Yes.”
‘And I said, “But you didn’t get up and leave when I defended Ted Kennedy.” She then just muffled something,’ he claimed.
Despite falling out with Caroline, Dershowitz told DailyMail.com that he has still maintained his friendship with the black sheep of the family, Robert Kennedy Jr. – Trump’s controversial secretary of Health and Human Services.
‘I have consulted with him and advised him on Israel and debated him about vaccines on YouTube,’ he said. ‘I consider him a friend, except on the volleyball court, where he is a terror.’
On January 24, Schlossberg took to Instagram and his 600,000 followers to taunt his second-cousin.
Tagging the older Kennedy, he accused him of ‘spewing lies’ that the CIA was involved in JFK’s assassination while insulting his wife Cheryl Hines: ‘Why are you scared of me? Why don’t you ever respond? Are you busy pouring over the JFK files? Or is Cheryl just really dry down there?’
‘So rude, unreal,’ one commenter replied to his post, and added, ‘Your grandmother and grandfather would be appalled at your behavior.’

Schlossberg later teed off on his cousin during his Senate confirmation hearing, echoing his mom’s brutal critique urging senators to reject his nomination.
She called her cousin RFK Jr. a ‘predator’ who is willfully misinformed about vaccines, and a dangerous liar who has cheated his way through life.
Dershowitz, recently speaking about Kennedy’s nomination on his own podcast, disclosed the terse conversation he had with Caroline Kennedy at the dinner party after Trump’s first impeachment.
His bringing that up ‘apparently really pissed of Schlossberg, and he went after me,’ Dershowitz told DailyMail.com.
‘The whole Martha’s Vineyard crowd, the whole left progressive Caroline crowd hates me for defending Donald Trump,’ he continued.
‘There’s no question this is an extension of that. But Schlossberg’s taking it to a much greater extreme, the idea of accusing me of murder. This goes further than anything that’s happened before.’
On February 3, Schlossberg went on a vile Instagram tirade, blasting Dershowitz’s relationship with the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein while falsely accusing him of killing his own wife.
‘Alan Dershowitz, if you can hear me, I need your help,’ Schlossberg said on video.
Facing heat for his remarks, Schlossberg announced he was leaving social media ‘forever’ on X before briefly deactivating his accounts on February 6
He later addressed his controversial behavior in an episode of Jen Psaki’s podcast, The Blueprint, in which he said the purpose of blasting his rants, off-putting opinions and bold-faced lies online is to garner confusion and anger
JFK’s grandson Jack Schlossberg sat down with Jen Psaki and revealed the true intentions behind his outrageous digital footprint
‘I’ve been trying to reach out to you. I’m in deep sh*t, dude. I’m all over the Epstein documents. There’s a lot of credible evidence.’
‘Everyone knows I killed my wife,’ he continued. ‘I’ve got a thousand sexual assault cases against me. I look like a human penis. I’m completely irrelevant and I’ve never had consensual sex. Oh wait, sh*t, that’s you.’
He then got to his point: ‘Don’t insult my family, don’t insult my family, don’t insult me!’ he shouted, then mock-spitted the words, ‘Dershowitz, Dershowitz, get the f**k out!’
He’s unleased similar vitriol against other MAGA politicians and pundits including conservative media personality Megyn Kelly, berating her stance on transgender issues while questioning her gender, quipping she ‘can no longer play in female sports.’
After DailyMail.com columnist Maureen Callahan wrote about his erratic behavior, the Kennedy heir turned his ire on her on X, using a misogynistic slur: ‘Sorry for the delayed response Maureen V****a.’ He told them both to ‘eat s***’.
On February 6, facing heat for his remarks, Schlossberg announced he was deleting his social media accounts.
‘I’m sorry to everyone I hurt,’ he announced. ‘I’m deleting all my social media. Forever.’
Days later, he returned to all platforms and tried to explain his outrageous antics during an interview with Jen Psaki on the MSNBC podcast The Blueprint.
After his brief hiatus, Schlossberg made a sarcastic attempt at damage control in a February 19 Instagram video in response to Dershowitz’s legal threats
He wrote: ‘(I’m legally obligated to inform you that Alan Dershowitz didn’t kill his wife who is alive – just kidding I’m not legally obligated to say that bc Alan Dershowitz Only threatened to sue me)’
Schlossberg told the former White House Press Secretary: ‘I think that the internet is a place where it’s difficult to break through, and it’s difficult to break through especially if you’re not saying something that’s controversial, or at least, somehow unexpected.’
Schlossberg, a graduate of Yale and Harvard with a law degree, was hired as a political correspondent for Vogue last year.
But he apparently has plenty of free time despite his prestigious writing gig, as he frequently showcases his privileged life in the Big Apple online, galivanting around his neighborhood in Chelsea.
Often posting shirtless, he teases about his dating life, offering up romantic advice after hinting at a breakup.
He’s also recently posted videos of himself spinning around in a dance studio and preparing gourmet meals with a ballet instructor friend.
Last week, following his short-lived departure from social media, Schlossberg debuted a dramatic look by unveiling his two new ear piercings online.
His social media posts, as bizarre and inflammatory as they may be, are typically flooded with comments from mostly fawning fans and followers who appear to gush over his every utterance.
It appears controversy only increases his audience.

He previously made waves with an off-putting post on X about the ‘hotness’ of his grandmother, Jackie Kennedy Onassis, while declaring his mock love for JD Vance’s wife Usha: ‘True of false,’ he wrote. ‘Usha Vance is way hotter than Jackie O.’

Speaking to DailyMail.com, Dershowitz said he thinks Schlossberg is a ‘spoiled brat’ and that ‘he doesn’t sound funny at all,’ particularly when he’s on the receiving end.
‘He can’t get away with this kind of thing, and I have the resources to sue him and make him pay,’ he told DailyMail.com, insisting he’s not backing down unless he finds Schlossberg mentally ill.
Dershowitz said he’s currently consulting with a ‘very prominent law firm in Manhattan.’
‘He has a lot of viewers and so the damages would be considerable,’ he declared.
And he pledged to donate any proceeds, stating: ‘There are a lot of charities that will benefit from his paying a lot of money for his defamation.’
