Back To Back Rockets Wins Versus Jazzy Utah?

FILED UNDER:

Or Just Back To Back Rockets Games?

Aaaand we’re back.

Back-to-back. SEGBABA in Utah, statistically, in the past, one of the worst places for visiting teams on the second night of a back-to-back. Denver is worse if coming from Utah recently, past, say, four or so years, but Utah, but before then, the Jazz have generally been better, so Denver to Utah was worse on the B2B. Two games at altitude, yes, that’s right, Denver likes to talk about Mile High all the time, but SLC is at 4300 feet up, not quite a mile, but up there.

(Nobody talks about Albuquerque being high altitude, but it’s up higher than Denver. Taos, New Mexico is closer to Tibet or Nepal at over 7,000 feet. Anyway…)

The Rockets likely won’t have Tari Eason or Steven Adams tonight against Utah. Maybe Cam Whitmore or Reed Sheppard will see some minutes? Hopefully the Rockets will take care of business early and get the bench some real run. The Rockets certainly looked less dead-legged last night when they beat the Minnesota Timberwoofs and NBA Darling Ant Edwards.

Join us on Playback, and we can talk just how long Danny Ainge’s Utah Jazzman Special Trade Winnerz Maximum Intensity Rebuilding Plan is going to be in Phase 1. I’m currently guessing we’re in year 3 of an 8 year Phase 1.

Rockets vs. Jazz odds, score prediction, time: 2025 NBA picks, Feb. 22 predictions from proven model

Image

The Houston Rockets (35-21) will try to pick up their fourth win in their last five games when they face the Utah Jazz (13-42) on Saturday night. Houston suffered a six-game losing streak at the beginning of the month, but it has won three of its four games since then. The Rockets returned from the All-Star break with a 121-115 win over Minnesota on Friday, remaining in fourth place in the Western Conference standings. Utah sits ahead of only New Orleans at the bottom of the conference, and it is coming off a 130-107 loss to Oklahoma City on Friday.

Tipoff is set for 9:30 p.m. ET on Saturday at the Delta Center. The Rockets are favored by 7.5 points in the latest Jazz vs. Rockets odds, while the over/under is 228.5 points, per SportsLine consensus. Before entering any Rockets vs. Jazz picks, you’ll want to see the NBA predictions from the model at SportsLine.

The SportsLine Projection Model simulates every NBA game 10,000 times and has returned well over $10,000 in betting profit for $100 players on its top-rated NBA picks over the past six-plus seasons. The model enters the second half of the 2024-25 NBA season on a sizzling 147-104 roll on all top-rated NBA picks dating back to last season, returning nearly $4,000. It’s also an outstanding 18-9 (67%) on top-rated spread picks this season. Anyone following at sportsbooks and on betting apps could have seen huge returns.

The model has set its sights on Houston-Utah. You can head to SportsLine to see its picks. Here are several NBA betting lines for the game:

Utah has picked up three of its 13 wins in February, beating the Magic, Warriors and Lakers as an underdog in each contest. The Jazz also took the Suns to overtime two weeks ago and pushed the Clippers to overtime in their final game before the All-Star break. Rookie center Kyle Filipowski had 20 points and 10 rebounds in the loss to the Clippers, while forward Lauri Markkanen added 20 points and six rebounds.

Center John Collins was the best player for Utah in Friday’s loss to Oklahoma City, scoring 26 points on 11 of 19 shooting. Veteran guard Jordan Clarkson had 19 points, and center Walker Kessler pulled down a team-high 19 rebounds. Utah has covered the spread in five of its last six home games, while Houston has only covered once in its last seven games. See which team to pick here.

Houston has bounced back from a slow start to the month with three wins in its last four games to hold onto fourth place in the Western Conference standings. The Rockets beat the Raptors and Suns to open the homestand before taking down the Timberwolves on Friday in their return from the All-Star break. Shooting guard Jalen Green poured in 35 points on 12 of 24 shooting, knocking down 5 of 11 attempts from 3-point range.

Center Alperen Sengun posted a double-double with 24 points and 13 rebounds, while point guard Amen Thompson added a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Forward Jabari Smith had 15 points and nine rebounds in his return from a 22-game injury absence due to a fractured left hand. Utah has lost five of its last six games and has only covered the spread twice during that stretch. See which team to pick here.

The model has simulated Rockets vs. Jazz 10,000 times and the results are in. We can tell you that the model is leaning Under, and it’s also generated a point-spread pick that is hitting in almost 60% of simulations. You can only see the pick at SportsLine.

So who wins Jazz vs. Rockets, and which side of the spread hits almost 60% of the time? Visit SportsLine now to see which side of the Rockets vs. Jazz spread you need to jump on, all from the model that is on a 147-104 roll on top-rated NBA picks, and find out.

The Bulls face off against the Suns on Saturday, and I’m targeting Nikola Vucevic to dominate on the glass.

The Suns have allowed the second-most rebounds per game to their opponents over their last 10 games, despite playing at a league average Pace during that stretch.

Chicago should be able to speed them up with their third-fastest Pace in the league.

While Phoenix has Nick Richards and Mason Plumlee, they both have deficiencies that can be exploited by Vucevic.

On the season, Vucevic is averaging 10.3 rebounds per game, and has exceeded this mark in 55% of games.

This matchup shapes up to be one of the best he could have though.

I’ll back him to exceed 10.5 rebounds and follow some of the other big rebounding games they’ve given up to centers recently (Sengun 13, Kessler 22, Ayton 20, Zubac 16).

By Bruce Marshall

Jordi Fernandez seems to have found something that semi-works for his Nets, who have climbed back to within sight of a play-in spot in the East with wins in six of eight, thanks in good part to playing at a much slower pace.

Note that the high-powered Cavs, who scored 142 last night against the Knicks, could only get to 110 on Thursday vs. Brooklyn, or simply ask the Sixers, who only got to 96 in a loss to Brooklyn just before the All-Star break.

It’s now Unders in four straight for the Nets, and 11 of their last 12, and they have held six of those last eight foes below 100 points.

Chemistry has been all wrong for the Sixers all season, and even with the Big 3 of Embiid, Maxey, and George on the floor together, Philly is only 7-7 this season. Play Nets-Sixers Under

By Bryan Fonseca

Nikola Jokic draws a matchup against a team without a center, against a defense that doesn’t project to be great against the league’s No. 3 offense, who is on a nine-game winning streak and averaging 128 points during that stretch.

And over that stretch, they’ve scored fewer than 112 just twice, once against the Hornets — surprisingly 13th in defense — and another against the Magic, who are second in defense.

Jokic has gone over 48.5 PRA in three straight and in seven of those nine games.

Additionally, he’s gotten this over in 10 of 13 going back to the 2023 playoffs — which is to point out that these were largely opposite of Anthony Davis, and now the Lakers have anything but.

By Joe Dellera

The Rockets play their second game in as many days, and I expect Amen Thompson to dominate this matchup against the Jazz.

Even when Jabari Smith returned, Amen did not see any decline in his playing time with another game at nearly 40 minutes of playing time. He has continued to see monster minutes for the Rockets.

When he has played 30+ minutes he averages 30.8 PRA and hits this mark in 58% of games. When he plays 35+ (which has become closer to the norm), he is averaging 33.1 PRA with a 70% hit rate on 30.5 PRA.

This is a back-to-back for both teams. So, we will have to see if Jabari plays both legs, and considering Walker Kessler has yet to play a back-to-back for the Jazz, this will impact their interior defense which should help Amen.

I’ll grab Thompson to exceed 30.5 Points + Rebounds + Assists.

By Kyle Murray

Donovan Clingan was played off the floor in the Trail Blazers’ last game, as the Lakers went small, but the Hornets will have a 7-foot traditional center on the floor for the majority of the game with Mark Williams and Jusuf Nurkic.

This line is down 2 full rebounds, and some books even had this number at 11.5 last game, so this is simply too much of an overreaction.

This number will almost certainly close at 9.5 or even 10.5 if Clingan remains in the starting lineup.

Clingan has averaged 0.42 rebounds per minute, and with his line of 24 minutes, I project Clingan for right around 11 rebounds against the Hornets, a team that allows the 3rd-most rebounds per game to opposing centers.
