Bivol vs. Beterbiev 2 live updates: Results, highlights for light heavyweight title card

Image

With Artur Beterbiev and Dmitry Bivol set for their rematch Saturday, numbers are being crunched.

In particular: When the two fought in October, Bivol landed 34% of his punches and 50% of his power shots. Beterbiev, by contrast, landed 20% of his punches and 29% of his punches. Bivol also landed more punches than Beterbiev, 142 to 137.

Did those numbers lie?

Despite the discrepancy, Beterbiev won by majority decision and led to the only acceptable solution: a rematch.

Beterbiev’s undisputed light heavyweight world title will be on the line when he faces Bivol with more numbers worth considering.

Beterbiev, the 40-year-old Russian native, is 21-0 but with 20 KOs after Bivol, the 34-year from Kyrgyzstan, become first boxer to take Beterbiev the distance. It was the first loss for Bivol, who is 23-1 and seemingly unconcerned about his blemished record.

“I have another chance,” Bivol said. “Not too many people get another chance.”

Ortiz looked baffled early while Israil Madrimov stayed on the move. But he eventually caught up to his slippery opponent and wore him down during the 12-round fight.

With the victory, Ortiz stayed undefeated and retained the interim WBC super welterweight title.

Though Madrimov eventually slowed down, he certainly didn’t quit. In fact, he landed some big overhands. But Ortiz evaded most of the potentially damaging shots and responded with his trusty jab and body shots.

The judges scored the fight 117-111, 115-113, 115-113 for Ortiz, the 26-year-old from Texas who improved to 23-0.

Madrimov, a 30-year Uzbekistan native who was coming off a close loss to Terence Crawford, fell to 10-2-1

At 6-foot- 6 and 288 pounds, “Big Bang’” Zhang towered over Kayabel. But Kabayel, three inches shorter and 47 pounds lighter than his massive opponent, showed no fear.

He pulverized Zhang’s massive body and knocked him out in the sixth round. Kabayel got knocked down in the fourth round, but it hardly slowed him as he stalked Zhang and pounded away at the body.

The final punch was another body shot that ended with fight with 34 seconds left in the sixth round.

With the victory, Kabayel, a 32-year-old German, improved to 26-0 and won the interim WBC heavyweight world title. Zhang, the 41-year-old from China fell to 27-3-1.

Smith finished the fight bleeding badly from around the right eye and having been pummeled to the head and body.

He also emerged the victor and new WBO lightweight world champion. The two fighters warred during the 12-round light heavyweight fight. But Smith’s right hand was the most impressive weapon and the judges thought the outcome was clear.

The judges scored it 119-110, 115-113 and 116-112 for Smith, the 34-year-year-old Brit. who improved to 31-2. His only losses came against champions Arturo Beterbiev and Canelo Alavarez.

Buatsi, the 31-year-old from Ghana, suffered his first loss and fell to 19-1.

The most remarkable thing about this fight was Gomez’s record. He entered the ring 42-8-3.

He exited with yet another defeat, losing a six-round bout to Alakel. The lone judge scored it 60-54 for Alakel, a 20-year-old from Saudi Arabia who improved to 3-0.

Although Alakel outclassed Gomez, the 25-year-old Nicaraguan put up a respectable defense and showed decent skills that might have evident early in his career. Gomez started his pro career 8-0-1 until the streak of futility commenced during which he has failed to win any of his last 45 bouts.

Almaayouf dominated Oliveira in this six-round super lightweight bout. Jonatas Oliveira now lost his 15th straight bout. That’s right, his 15th straight loss. Almaayouf, a 24-year-old from Saudi Arabia, made good use of his jab and right hook while improving to 7-0-1. Oliveira, a 29-year-old from Brazil, displayed a noticeable lack of power while falling to 6-21.

The single judge scoring the fight scored it 60-54 in favor of Almaayouf.

The undisputed light heavyweight championship rematch fight will get underway Saturday at Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Coverage starts at 11 a.m. ET and will be available on DAZN PPV.

All available odds are for moneyline bets (as of Thursday), according to BetMGM.

Anatoly Pimentel writes: “I predict that Bivol will get the decision victory in this championship rematch against Beterbiev because he has shown that he can take Beterbiev’s best shots. Furthermore, he was able to develop an effective fight plan against him from their first meeting. Bivol used his soviet style conclusively to counter Beterbiev’s aggressiveness and powerful punches. However, the only mistake he committed during the first fight was he relaxed in the latter rounds of the match.”

Staff writes: “This fight could go either way. It really is a 50-50 pick. However, Bivol has more adjustments he can make in this rematch and the fact that none of those changes are earth-shattering has me leaning in his favor. The betting pick is Dmitry Bivol to beat Artur Beterbiev via decision.”

Brent Brookhouse: “This fight really is a toss-up and the first fight was extremely close. That said, the majority of media scorecards were tilted toward Bivol, with another significant chunk seeing the fight as a draw. As good as Beterbiev is, Bivol is the man I believe who has the better chance to make significant adjustments to his style for the rematch. Beterbiev is who he is: an underrated technician who wants to come forward and land his heavy punches. Bivol has a bit more flexibility to his game and in such a close fight, I’d go toward the guy who arguably deserved the win the first time around and who is more likely to make necessary adjustments for the rematch, especially as a slight underdog.”

Coverage starts at 11 a.m. ET will be available only on DAZN PPV.

The Dmitry Bivol vs. Artur Beterbiev card will be available on DAZN for a price of $25.99.

Uncrowned has Artur Beterbiev vs. Dmitry Bivol 2 live results, round-by-round updates, highlights, ring walks and start time for the Beterbiev vs. Bivol 2 fight card on Saturday at the Anb Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Undisputed light heavyweight champion Beterbiev defends his WBA, WBO, IBF, and WBC belts against the former WBA champion Bivol in a hotly-anticipated title rematch, which sits atop a card that is being declared by some as the best in boxing history.

Beterbiev (21-0, 20 KOs) and Bivol (23-1, 12 KOs) delivered a tremendous contest in their undisputed championship clash this past October in Riyadh. On that occasion, Beterbiev edged a controversial majority decision over Bivol, with the majority of viewers both at home and in the arena feeling that Bivol had done enough to have his hand raised at the end of 12 electric rounds

As a result, Beterbiev and Bivol meet in an immediate rematch for all four belts on Saturday.

In the co-main event, Joseph Parker (35-3, 23 KOs) defends his WBO interim heavyweight title against Martin Bakole (21-1, 16 KOs). Parker was supposed to challenge IBF heavyweight champion Daniel Dubois in Saturday’s co-feature, however Dubois was forced to withdraw just days out from the event due to illness, leading Martin Bakole to step in as a last-second replacement and save Parker’s spot on the show.

Two other full world title fights also line the card, as Shakur Stevenson (22-0, 10 KOs) defends his WBC lightweight crown against another late replacement in Josh Padley (15-0, 4 KOs), and Hamzah Sheeraz (21-0, 17 KOs) makes his first attempt at world honors by facing the reigning WBC middleweight titleist Carlos Adames (24-1, 18 KOs).

Beterbiev vs. Bivol 2 prelims begin at 10 a.m. ET and can be watched live on Uncrowned. The main card starts at 11 a.m. ET on DAZN pay-per-view and main event ring walks are expected around 6 p.m. ET.

Follow all of the action with Uncrowned’s live results, highlights and play-by-play of the main card below.

WBC lightweight title: Shakur Stevenson vs. Josh Padley

WBC middleweight title: Carlos Adames vs. Hamzah Sheeraz

WBC interim super welterweight title: Vergil Ortiz Jr. def. Israil Madrimov via UD (115-113, 115-113, 117-111)

WBC interim heavyweight title: Agit Kabayel def. Zhilei Zhang via sixth-round TKO | Watch KO

Lightweight: Mohammed Alakel def. Engel Gomez via points (60-54)

Super lightweight: Ziyad Almaayouf def. Jonatas de Oliveira via points (60-54)

Hamzah Sheeraz looks to become the first Brit to win the prestigious green and gold WBC middleweight title since Alan Minter in 1980 as he takes on defending champion Carlos Adames.

Adames (24-1, 18 KOs) has won six consecutive fights since dropping a unanimous decision to Patrick Teixeira in his only loss back in 2019. The Dominican won a title eliminator over veteran contender Sergiy Derevyanchenko in 2021 and hasn’t looked back since, following it up by claiming the WBC interim title over Juan Macias Montiel, defending it against Julian Williams, and then retaining the full title with a decision over Terrell Gausha this past June.

Sheeraz (21-0, 17 KOs) enjoyed a tremendous 2024 campaign, which began with his opening-round knockout of multi-time title challenger Liam Williams. Sheeraz then battled back from adversity to stop Austin Williams in the 11th round of a seemingly 50-50 matchup between top middleweight contenders, before closing out the year with a second-round stoppage of Tyler Denny.

Vergil Ortiz Jr. wins a close unanimous decision (115-113, 115-113, 117-111) over Israil Madrimov to retain his WBC interim super welterweight title.

They trade hooks up close. Madrimov’s landed upstairs, Ortiz’s connected downstairs. HUGE Uppercut from Ortiz lands, it looks like it will be a better finish for the American. Left hook from Madrimov lands, a brilliant connect. Right hand gets through for Ortiz, this has been such a close fight.

10-9 Ortiz. Final score: 114-114 draw

Left hook from Madrimov followed by a flurry. Left hook again from Madrimov but he caught a right hand from Ortiz Jr. on the counter. Uppercut-left hook combination connects for Madrimov. Madrimov has gotten a second wind, while Ortiz looks to have tired. Good work from Madrimov in the final minute of the eleventh.

10-9 Madrimov, 105-104 Madrimov

Left hook from Madrimov early in the tenth, and now he’s backing Ortiz up. Left hook to the body connects for Ortiz. Ortiz and Madrimov trade in the centre of the ring, STRONG right hand from Ortiz Jr. followed by a left hook. Ortiz has really taken over now, Madrimov needs to find something from somewhere. Madrimov has no problem firing back, but it’s Ortiz with the eye-catching punches.

10-9 Ortiz, 95-95

Body shot from Ortiz connects in the second minute of the ninth. Ortiz has turned up the heat just as we approach the final minute of the ninth. Ortiz putting punches together: hooks to the body and a right hand upstairs. Sustained pressure from Ortiz, he needed this round after giving up the 7th and the 8th on my card. Punches to the body and through the middle getting through for Ortiz, BIG ROUND!

10-9 Ortiz, 86-85 Madrimov

HUGE right hand counter from Madrimov followed by a left uppercut just before the two-minute mark in the eighth. It was a very close round up until then, but Madrimov has found the power connects just when he needed them. Madrimov pot-shotting in the final 30 seconds, Ortiz has just slowed with the pressure.

10-9 Madrimov, 77-75 Madrimov

Left hook connects for Madrimov early in the seventh. Right hand from Madrimov breaks the guard. Ortiz not pressuring Madrimov as much in the seventh. It was a quieter round, which is better for Madrimov.

10-9 Madrimov, 67-66 Madrimov

Overhand left from Madrimov clips Ortiz. Ortiz gunning to the body early in the second minute, Madrimov might have felt one of those. Right hand from Ortiz, Madrimov swinging with big hooks but hitting Ortiz’s guard. Ortiz is taking over as we approach the halfway point, Madrimov needs to change something.

10-9 Ortiz, 57-57

The movement has not been as effective for Madrimov in the fifth, he tries to change what he’s doing and is now trading with Ortiz at times. Right-hand lands for Madrimov, Ortiz is starting to let go with combinations now.

10-9 Ortiz, 48-47 Madrimov

Left hands from Oriz Jr. connect to the midsection. Ortiz Jr. has increased the tempo in this round. Combination upstairs lands for the American. Right hand from Ortiz Jr. gets through in the final ten seconds, it’s been his best round so far.

10-9 Ortiz, 39-37 Madrimov

Ortiz Jr. can’t pin Madrimov down. Madrimov shuffles to the right, shuffles to the left, moves his head, and feints. It’s confusing Ortiz Jr., who has never come across anything like this before. Single right hands from Madrimov clipping Ortiz Jr. upstairs and downstairs. Ortiz Jr. needs to target the torso area and try and force the pace.

10-9 Madrimov, 30-27 Madrimov

Damage under Ortiz’s left eye from a Madrimov right hand. Madrimov’s movement is confusing Ortiz early. Left hook to the body from Ortiz. Right hand from Madrimov. Madrimov connects with a counter right-hand, he is making Ortiz fight at his pace just like Kabayel did in the previous contest, except this time it’s a slower pace.

10-9 Madrimov, 20-18 Madrimov

Ortiz Jr. comes out on the front foot, looking to pour the pressure on Madrimov straight away. Madrimov moving laterally on the backfoot. Not much landing from either in the opener, Madrimov hitting the guard, while Ortiz swings and misses. A pair of good right hands from Madrimov in the final minute.

10-9 Madrimov

Vergil Ortiz Jr. defends his WBC interim super welterweight belt against the former WBA champion Israil Madrimov.

Ortiz (22-0, 21 KOs) recovered from two knockdowns to win a close majority decision over Serhii Bohachuk in August. Just seven days earlier, Madrimov (10-1-1, 7 KOs) was on the wrong end of a tight loss to Terence Crawford in Los Angeles.

BODY SHOTS FROM KABAYEL! Zhang sinks over and the referee intervenes, but no knockdown or stoppage. Very odd that the referee just gave Zhang a breather when he was visibly hurt.

Kabayel is on the verge of a finish as he has been for several rounds, he just needs to make sure that he doesn’t catch one from Zhang as he lets his hands go.

Kabayel backing Zhang up and he hammers both sides of the body with hooks, surely this can’t go on much longer.

DOWN GOES ZHANG in the final minute of the sixth and IT’S ALL OVER!

Kabayel TKO-6

Kabayel has hurt Zhang early in the fifth, Zhang is being forced back. The man from China looks exhausted, Kabayel is going for the finish.

LEFT HAND FROM ZHANG and down goes Kabayel. What a turnaround from Zhang just when Kabayel looked like he was taking over. What a brilliant comeback from Zhang. One punch can change everything in the heavyweight division and that was the perfect example of just that.

Zhang is still punching with his moth wide open, indicating that he’s tired. Kabayel seems to have recovered and going back downstairs in the final 20 seconds,

10-8 Zhang, 48-46 Zhang

Right uppercut through the middle from Kabayel after four seconds in round four. The German is putting his punches together against Zhang, Zhang looks tired already. Body shots from Kabayel taking the energy out of Zhang. Zhang is now coming off second best, Kabayel has forced the action and controlled the pace.

10-9 Kabayel, 38-38

Zhang and Kabayel trading short shots at center ring. Kabayel is putting the pressure on Zhang as we enter the second minute of the third. Body shots are key for Kabayel, he needs to invest to the body and slow Zhang down, so he can take over in the later rounds. However, Kabayel is playing a dangerous game with how close he is to a puncher like Zhang with one hand down. Bodywork from Kabayel. This is being fought a ferocious pace, and surely that benefits Kabayel.

10-9 Kabayel, 29-28 Zhang

Short right hand from Zhang lands up close, while a Kabayel uppercut gets through the center. Kabayel is letting his hands go against Zhang, forcing the fight at a high-pace as Zhang notoriously has stamina issues. Zhang eating some hard shots downstairs, but fires back with a right hook, Kabayel took it well. Uppercut and a left hand from Zhang connects, Kabayel perhaps needs to do a better job of moving his head and getting out of the way of punches.

10-9 Zhang, 20-18 Zhang
