PS5 State of Play February 2025: the best trailers and biggest reveals
by Andrew Webster
Sony started out 2025 by sharing exactly what it has in store for the PlayStation 5 this year — or at least some of it. The company’s 40-minute-long State of Play event was missing big, expected names like Ghost of Yōtei and Assassin’s Creed Shadows. Instead, it was focused on smaller titles like Q-Games’ Dreams of Another and the next entry in the Five Nights at Freddy’s franchise. We did get at least one big surprise with Saros, the next game from Returnal studio Housemarque.
If you missed it live, here are the highlights.

I’m not sure what the… heck… is going on in this new trailer, but I dig the weird and horror-y vibes of the game. It also has no map, which sounds intriguing and hopefully not terrible. It’s coming to PS5, Xbox Series X / S, and PC.

Housemarque, the PlayStation-owned studio that made the excellent sci-fi roguelike Returnal, has just announced its next game: Saros. The game will launch on PS5 in 2026.
Here’s a brief description of the game from its reveal trailer:

Days Gone Remastered is launching on April 25th on PS5, Sony announced today. It has new modes, including a permadeath and a speedrun mode. If you own the PS4 version, you’ll be able to upgrade to this remastered version for $10, according to a blog post. And on PC, you can pay $10 if you own the game to get new features as well.

There were sister locations, help was wanted (a couple of times), then there was a security breach. Now the next calamity in the Five Nights at Freddy’s series involves mimics. During the PlayStation State of Play presentation, Steel Wool Productions showed off a first look at gameplay for Five Nights at Freddy’s: Secret of the Mimic. Find those mimics and dodge murderous animatronics for minimum wage when Secret of the Mimic launches June 13th.

Pixeljunk studio Q-Games is back with an ambitious looking game called Dreams of Another. Here’s the description: “Rather than destroying objects by shooting — as in traditional shooting games — here, your shots materialize and rebuild the world. This unconventional mechanic offers a gameplay experience that challenges the norms of the genre and invites players into a whole new dimension.” It launches later this year.

As leaked last week via the Playstation Store, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater will be released on August 28th, 2025, as shown in today’s State of Play show. And yes, it will actually bring back the Ape Escape-themed mode.

After being revealed at The Game Awards in December, Capcom is showing off a little more of its return to Onimusha with a new trailer. The game itself is dropping some time in 2026.

PlayStation debuted the trailer for the next Sonic racing game, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds during its February State of Play presentation. As slick as this new Sonic racing game looks, its existence begs the question: why does Sonic need to drive? He’s already quote unquote “the fastest thing alive,” driving a car would unnec— Wait, what was I talking about? Oh yeah, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds launches on PlayStation sometime this year.
JAY PETERS
It will include a side-scrolling beat ‘em up mode, apparently. It comes out in April 2025.
There will also be a demo available on PlayStation for Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, which launches on February 21st.

There’s a new trailer for the looter shooter, but more importantly we finally have a release date: September 23rd.

Another classic action franchise is coming back, this time with Shinobi: Art of Vengeance, from the same developers behind Streets of Rage 4. It launches August 29th.

A new trailer for Monster Hunter Wilds kicked off today’s PlayStation State of Play show, and the game looks great. The trailer says that the game will get a free title updates in the spring and summer that add new content.

One of the more interesting stories to follow during today’s State of Play stream will be whether or not any of Microsoft’s big franchises are present, as the company is pushing forward with its multiplatform plans. In fact, many of its biggest upcoming games are coming to PS5.

It’s still relatively early in the year, but 2025 has already been a pretty busy one for gaming announcements. Nintendo officially unveiled the next Switch (with more details on the way), Xbox had an impressive game-filled event, and now it’s Sony’s turn. The company is holding its semi-regular State of Play stream this afternoon, which will span 40 minutes.
Sony hasn’t detailed much of what we can expect, other than saying “the show celebrates a creative and unique selection of exciting games from studios around the world.” It will also be focused on games for the PS5, so VR fans are probably out of luck.

Sony has announced that it will hold a presentation to show off the next batch of upcoming PlayStation games. The presentation will take place on Wednesday, February 12th, at 2PM PT / 5PM ET. It’ll have a runtime of 40 minutes and feature “creative and unique selection of exciting games from studios around the world.”
Last month, Nintendo held its own presentation to finally announce its next console, the Switch 2. Meanwhile Xbox held a more game-focused Developer Direct, which included an announcement for Ninja Gaiden 4 as well as a stealth drop for the remaster of Ninja Gaiden II. Sony’s announcement comes just a few days removed from a huge PlayStation Network outage over the weekend, which resulted in subscribers getting a few extra days added to their accounts.

PlayStation State of Play February 2025: Everything Announced
A brand-new State of Play has arrived and it gave us an exciting look at the future of PS5 with a ton of games. Alongside an exciting look at Saros, Housemarque’s next game of Returnal, we also got new trailers and release dates for Borderlands 4, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, and much more.
There were big reveals like Days Gone Remastered, a new look at Onimusha: Way of the Sword, a new Dynasty Warriors spin-off that’s out today, a look at WWE 2K25’s The Island, a new Shinobi game, and so much more.
As we previously mentioned, there were a lot of reveals and this roundup has gathered every announcement to ensure you don’t miss a thing! Which game are you most excited for? Let us know below!
Saros is Housemarque’s next game after Returnal and it’s set to arrive on PS5 in 2026. While it looks a lot like Returnal, it looks to be a new game set on the planet of Carcosa that is “under the threat of an ominous eclipse.” Players will take on the role of Arjun Devraj (Rahul Kohli), who is a “powerful Soltari Enforcer searching for answers on a lost off-world colony.”
There will be “permanent progression systems,” and “every death reshapes the world while offering new upgrades to overcome challenges.”
Alongside a new gameplay trailer, Konami has confirmed Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater will be released on August 28, 2025. There will also be an Ape Escape collaboration and potentially more crossovers yet to be revealed.
Borderlands 4 will officially be released on September 23, 2025. To celebrate the release date, Gearbox shared a brand-new gameplay trailer that gives another look at the much-anticipated sequel. Furthermore, there will be a Borderlands 4-themed State of Play arriving later this spring.
While Onimusha: Way of the Sword won’t be released until 2026, Capcom stopped by the State of the Play to help with the wait with a new gameplay trailer that shows off the game’s new protagonist, the historic swordsman Miyamoto Musashi.
Tides of Annihilation was one of the big surprises of the show and looks like a beautiful single-player, narrative-driven action-adventure game that combines “intense, breakneck combat, an immersive narrative, and an unforgettable setting.”
Tides of Annihilation takes place in modern London that has been taken over by otherworldly forces. Players will take on the role of Gwendolyn and will be able to call in the Knights of the Round Table to help her in combat. Oh, and they’ll get to fight bosses as big as skyscrapers.
Days Gone is riding its way to PS5 on April 25, 2025, and will bring with it VRR and PS5 Pro support, permadeath and speedrun modes, an enhanced photo mode, additional accessibility features, and even a Horde Assault mode that will have Deacon St. John taking on even more Freakers that usual.
Players who already own the PS4 version of Days Gone will be able to upgrade to this new version for $10.
The State of Play revealed that February’s PlayStation Plus Game Catalog additions will feature Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, TopSpin 2K25, Lost Records: Bloom & Rage – Tape 1, and more. We also got a look at some new indie games headed to the service in the future, including Blue Prince and Abiotic Factor.
Former lead GTA series developer Leslie Benzies’ MindsEye took the spotlight during the State of Play with gameplay and cinematic trailers alongside a Summer 2025 release window.
MindsEye stars Jacob Diaz, a former soldier who is haunted by a covert mission gone wrong and, to make matters worse, he has a mysterious neural implant called a MindsEye that plagues him with “fragmented memories and is desperate to uncover the truth about his past.”
MindsEye takes place in Redrock, a place where AI, robotics, and neural implants have changed society for both the good and the bad. Players will be able to experience action on foot, in cars, and even in the sky as they uncover more about Jacob’s story.
Dynasty Warriors is getting a roguelite spin-off called Warriors: Abyss that will be released today on both PS5 and PS4. There will be randomly generated stages and items, choices that will make you stronger, and so much more.
In this game that will combine the “exhilirating feeling of 1 vs. 1,000 action with roguelite elements,” there will be over 100 unique characters and over “16 billion combinations” of ways to play by choosing seven of 100 characters each run.
A new trailer for Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds has revealed much more gameplay for the upcoming racing game that is racing to PC, PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. One of the most exciting parts of the trailer was a look at how portals will take racers to different worlds in an instant.
Stellar Blade is getting a crossover with Goddess of Victory: Nikke in the form of a themed boss, a new outfit, collectible dolls and sticks, and more. It is set to be released in June 2025.
Lies of P: Overture will serve as a prequel to the 2023 Soulslike and will let players uncover the “hidden stories of Krat” and see how you “woke up in the middle of the great Puppet Frenzy.”
WWE 2K25 has finally pulled back the curtain on its social multiplayer wrestling hub known as The Island. Players will be able to take their custom wrestlers into this new world and explore, take on challenges, develop storylines, and much more.
Shinobi: Art of Vengeance is a new entry in the beloved franchise that will launch on PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 on August 29, 2025. Joe Musashi is “struck by tragedy” and embarks on a “quest for vengeance.” While it isn’t a Metroidvania, players will unlock abilities that will let them explore hidden paths and discover secrets, which should add to the replayability.
Shinobi: Art of Vengeance is being developed by Sega and Streets of Rage 4’s Lizardcube.
Metal Eden is described as an “adrenaline rush sci-fi FPS” and players will be able to find out exactly what that means when it is released on PS5 on May 6, 2025. One of the most unique mechanics of Metal Eden is known as Core Ripping and allows players to use a Multitool to use its Gravity Beam to rip Cores from enemies in you way. You can then throw those cores and create a nice little explosion. You can also choose to consume the core, which could improve your melee attacks, mobility, and survivability.
Lost Soul Aside recieved a new gameplay and story trailer alongside a release date of May 30, 2025, on PS5 and PC. Lost Soul Aside started as a “one-person dream” from Yang Bing and it has now “evolved into a sprawling adventure full of breathtaking visuals and adrenaline-pumping combat.”
Monster Hunter Wilds will release a free title update in the spring that will add Mizutsune and much more, including Event Quests and other surprises.
Split Fiction is almost here and it recieved a new story trailer ahead of its big debut on March 6, 2025.
Supermassive Games’ Directive 8020 will be released on October 2, 2025, and will bring together “sci-fi exploration with spine-chilling horror, where every choice could lead to a disatrous death.”
Directive 8020 takes place aboard the Cassiopeia and sees our characters searching for a new home as Earth is dying. This ship is kind of like a survey ship, but things sadly go anything but smoothly as the crew wakes from a four-year hyper sleep to “a hull breach, a murder, and some extremely suspicious crew activity – all of which culminates in the ship crash landing on the planet.” Oh, and there will be an alien organism that can transform into any character, so that’s great!
Dreams of Another is the next PixelJunk adventure and it will be released on PS5 and PS VR2 in 2025. This game sees players exploring an “ethereal, impressionistic dreamscape in which you shoot to create.” Dreams of Another is built around the theme that “no creation without destruction” and is centered around The Man in Pajamas and The Wandering Soldier.
The action-adventure, story-based platformer Darwin’s Paradox is aiming to let players “truly understand what it feels like to be an octopus.” Darwin can climb, camouflage himself, and shoot ink with the added benefit of feeling the actions come to life on the DualSense.
PlayStation Fans were treated to a stunning look at the stop-motion first-person action-adventure game known as The Midnight Walk. This unique titles will be released on both PS5 and PS VR2 on May 8, 2025.
Yakuza: Like a Dragon’s Kasuga Ichiban will be joining Dave the Diver in April as part of Dave the Diver: Ichiban’s Holiday DLC. There will also be mini-games like Karaoke and a way to “recruit familiar faces from the Like a Dragon series to join your restaurant staff.”
Hell Is Us, the upcoming third-person, post-apocalyptic sci-fi action-adventure game, will be released on September 4, 2025.
Digimon Story Time Stranger is a new JRPG where players will switch between both the human world and the Digital World, collecting and training Digimon along the way to “stop the collapse of the world and change fate itself.”
Five Nights at Freddy’s is making its return after almost two years with Secret of the Mimic, where players will face off against a foe who can become the other animatronic characters, because that’s not scary at all! No, not at all!
