Andrew Garfield and A Complete Unknown Star Monica Barbaro Are Quietly Dating: Source (Exclusive)

Andrew Garfield and Monica Barbaro are dating.
“They’ve been really lowkey and have been spending time together quietly,” a source tells PEOPLE of the We Live in Time actor, 41, and the A Complete Unknown actress, 34.
Reps for Garfield and Barbaro did not respond to PEOPLE’s requests for comment.
The two posed together at W Magazine’s annual Best Performances party in Los Angeles on Jan. 4, alongside Eddie Redmayne and Lynn Hirschberg.
Barbaro and Garfield were more recently spotted sitting side by side in the audience during a performance of Richard II at the Bridge Theatre on London’s West End, starring Jonathan Bailey.
In a video posted on social media Thursday, Feb. 20, the pair, who were dressed casually, including in baseball caps, could be seen chatting before the show began.

Garfield was most recently known to be in a relationship with spiritual reader Kate Tomas. The two were first linked in March 2024 but had split “months” before Tomas revealed in October that they were no longer together.
Garfield was previously linked to his Amazing Spider-Man costar Emma Stone in the 2010s. In late 2021, he began dating model Alyssa Miller, but the two broke up by April 2022, a source told PEOPLE at the time.
During an interview with Esquire in October 2024, the Oscar-nominated Tick, Tick … Boom! actor made it clear he has no interest in sharing details of his personal life and romantic relationships with the public.
“I have never, and I won’t ever, speak about or confirm or deny anything about my personal life with anyone, ever,” Garfield said.

Barbaro, who is also known for her role in 2022’s Top Gun: Maverick, currently stars as a young Joan Baez in the Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown, opposite Timothée Chalamet as the legendary musician.
Her role as the real-life Baez earned Barbaro her first-ever Academy Award nod this year, in the category of Best Supporting Actress.
After the nominations announcement on Jan. 23, the actress recalled to PEOPLE of her Top Gun costars, “Our group chat just blew up.”
Barbaro played Navy pilot Lt. Natasha “Phoenix” Trace in the Tom Cruise-starring sequel from director Joseph Kosinski, alongside Miles Teller, Jennifer Connelly, Jon Hamm, Glen Powell, Ed Harris, Val Kilmer and more.
“That was really exciting,” she added to PEOPLE of her costars’ reaction to her success. “They’re just super supportive and thrilled.”

Andrew Garfield has been ‘quietly’ dating A Complete Unknown actress Monica Barbaro, an insider has claimed.
The pair sparked romance rumors after being spotted spending time together in London earlier this week, however, a source has since claimed that they are an item.
Speaking to People, they said: ‘They’ve been really lowkey and have been spending time together quietly.’
DailyMail.com has reached out to representatives for Andrew, 41, and Monica, 34, for comment.
Andrew and Monica were photographed attending a production of Richard II, starring Wicked and Bridgerton alum Jonathan Bailey, at the Bridge Theatre on Thursday.
Their outing in the English capital marks the second time they’ve been seen hanging out in two months.
In January, the lovebirds rubbed shoulders with Eddie Redmayne and Lynn Hirschberg, W Magazine Editor at Large, at W Magazine’s Annual Best Performances Party at Chateau Marmont in Los Angeles.
In recent months, fans had been hoping for a romance between Andrew and Chicken Shop Date’s Amelia Dimoldenberg after a series of flirty encounters.

However, it was recently reported that Amelia, 31, is dating film producer and Olivia Rodrigo’s ex-boyfriend Adam Faze, 27.
Andrew was previously involved with girlfriend Dr. Kate Tomas, from whom he split in 2024.
Kate, a spiritual mentor, confirmed the end of their relationship in the comments of a post about her guided meditation practice in October.
They had last been seen publicly at Wimbledon in July.
An Instagram user with the handle @felipe.reistavares had asked: ‘Are you still dating Andrew Garfield? If so, tell him I’m a fan of him, please. Thank you.’
Kate wrote back: ‘We broke up months ago but I’m sure he will be happy to know that he is loved.’
In a less positive exchange, she hit back at another social media user who implied she talked about the Hollywood hunk too much.
Responding to Instagram user @xoxstellz, who told her to ‘stop talking about Andrew,’ she bitingly said: ‘Sweetheart, the only people who ever talk about or center a man in my life, work, business, and social media are women like you.’

The four-time divorcée spoke about her relationship with Andrew with The Sunday Times last July, as well as on her podcast, denying she used magic spells to seduce him.
‘It’s not about the magic spells or manipulation,’ Kate said.
‘It has got nothing to do with how perfect their teeth are — thank you, Reddit — or whether they conform to conventional standards of beauty.
‘People that are really attractive are full of charisma because they are authentically themselves and confidently anchored in that. Magic takes time. It can’t happen overnight.’
Kate also expressed exasperation at her achievements being overlooked due to dating someone famous.
She said: ‘It’s frustrating that no matter how accomplished or impactful a woman is, it’s always going to be more interesting if they are in a relationship with a man.
‘I don’t want to sit under anybody’s shadow.’

Awards season has brought love into Andrew Garfield’s life. On February 21, People reported that Garfield has been “quietly” dating A Complete Unknown’s Monica Barbaro after the two were seen together in London.

Barbaro, meanwhile, is a 34-year-old rising star who hasn’t spoken about her love life either. She has touched on some offscreen relationships though, telling L’Officiel Australia in July 2023 that she has “a lovely community of friends. I love to host at my place and have everyone over for a Sunday morning, wear your PJs and just come, hang out and watch whatever, sports game or chat, catch up….Luckily, after abandoning my friends so much and leaving town, they’re still willing to come over and hang out.”
And in February 2025, she told Hollywood Authentic that attending events during awards season can really “change an actor’s life.”
When she went to the 2023 Oscars with the Top Gun: Maverick cast, “I just kept thinking: “Embrace it. See it. Feel it,’” she said.
“One of the coolest things about being in that conversation is getting to have that sense of community in a space that can be quite intimidating professionally,” she continued. “It was just so exciting to be there, and to watch people make speeches and honor their fellow nominees, and really truthfully do so. It’s not fake. That was so cool.”

A source said the two actors had been dating quietly but did not specify when their relationship began. “They’ve been really low-key and have been spending time together quietly,” the insider said.
Neither commented on dating reports when they came out. Garfield does not have social media, while Barbaro has remained silent on the topic on Instagram.
