After five years away, Deborah Ann Woll‘s Karen Page returns to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Daredevil: Born Again. The actor recently opened up about coming back as the fan-favorite Daredevil character after being absent from the original iteration of the Disney+ continuation.
When Daredevil: Born Again was first announced by Marvel Studios, the plan wasn’t to continue Netflix’s Daredevil. Instead, Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio would play versions of Daredevil and Kingpin, respectively, that were part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but not necessarily the versions from Netflix’s The Defenders Saga. However, while on a production hiatus in 2023 due to the actors’ strike, Marvel reviewed the footage that had already been shot and decided a massive creative overhaul was needed for Born Again.
This resulted in Woll as well as Elden Henson’s Foggy Nelson being brought back when filming resumed in 2024. Set photos from the actors’ highly-anticipated return alongside Charlie Cox quickly went viral online, with fans expressing excitement over the core trio of Netflix’s Daredevil finally being reunited in the MCU.

Speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Woll reflected on the first scene she shot for Daredevil: Born Again, revealing that all three were extremely happy to be working together again.
“We’re just looking at each other,” she recalled. “We’re like, ‘Guys! We’re back. We’re here again. Can you believe it?’ I don’t know, just the joy, the absolute joy . . . I’m having good tinglies just thinking about it.”
Despite being excited to return as Karen Page, Woll admitted that she was initially concerned that too much time might have passed since she last played the character and that it could impact her performance.
“Sometimes when you’ve been away from a role for a while and you return to it, it can feel a bit like you’re doing an impression of yourself,” the actor explained. “I was worried about that, but I think because the three of us have such an easy give-and-take, that allowed it to be very natural and fall right into place.”
Daredevil: Born Again premieres with its first two episodes on Disney+ on March 4, 2025.

Disney Plus’ upcoming show Daredevil: Born Again is set to be an all-out action series, but Marvel Comics writer Rob Liefeld has claimed that the show was originally set to be a comedy before a Marvel stuntman took over. However, star Vincent D’Onofrio has since set the record straight, saying the reshoots were all down to showrunner Dario Scardapane.
“Prior to the Marvel Brass finally listening to the talent, the show was a comedy!” said Liefeld on Twitter. “They brought in action impression Phil Silvera who literally reshot most every episode. The action and stunts are next level!” Liefeld is best known for co-creating the character Deadpool for Marvel comics. Notably, Liefeld isn’t involved in Daredevil: Born Again and recently cut ties with Marvel Studios after feeling “diminished” at the Deadpool and Wolverine premiere by not being invited to the afterparty (via THR).
Liefeld’s tweet is in response to Daredevil’s D’Onofrio (Wilson Fisk) telling GQ Magazine “We made it known that we were not happy, and the big bosses, especially Kevin [Feige], listened to us.” This is in reference to additional scenes and episodes being added to the spin-off by showrunner Dario Scardapane.
However, following Liefeld’s Tweet, D’Onofrio took to Twitter to set the record straight writing: “Phil was hired again for the stunts that’s true. Yet the new episodes even the action scenes were written by Dario our showrunner. “The Kingpin star continued, adding, “It was a wonderful restart and we all worked really hard for the fans. Charlie, myself, and Dario our producers and studio heads felt like we knew what the fans wanted. That was our goal.”
As D’Onofrio didn’t address the “comedy” element of Liefeld’s claim, that may be true, which is wild to think after Born Again received the highest age rating possible. The show has officially been rated ‘TV-MA’ in the US and ’18+’ in the UK and the rest of Europe. This is quite rare for Marvel with only The Punisher season 1 and 2, Iron Fist season 1, and Daredevil season 2 also holding the rating.
Welcoming back Charlie Cox as blind lawyer Matt Murdock by day and vigilante Daredevil by night, the new show sees the hero come face to face with Fisk AKA Kingpin once again on the mean streets of Hell’s Kitchen. The cast also includes Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page, Elden Henson as Foggy Nelson, Jon Bernthal as Punisher, and more.

Charlie Cox Explains How We Got Our Original Crew Back for Daredevil: Born Again

The Marvel series Daredevil: Born Again is achingly close to premiering on Disney+, and the show we’ll be getting is markedly different than the one that Marvel Studios initially intended to make.
In a recent profile in GQ, Matt Murdoch himself, Charlie Cox and Kingpin actor Charles D’Onofrio shared how the show transformed into one that was more in line with the previous Netflix series and included more of the original cast, including Deborah Ann Woll, who plays Karen Page, and Elden Henson, who once again takes on the role of Foggy Nelson.
“Vincent and I were both not 100 percent convinced what we were doing at the time was the right path,” Cox told GQ about the original version of the Disney+ series, “but we’re both good soldiers and professionals, and we were trying to be open-minded.”
After six episodes had been shot, the production had to take a forced pause because of the writers’ and actors’ strikes. The hiatus allowed Marvel to reassess where the show was going. “In a bizarre twist of fate, the strikes that were so terrible for so many people in the industry ended up being the best thing that happened for our particular show,” Cox said.
D’Onofrio was more upfront about Marvel’s reassessment during the pause: “We made it known that we were not happy, and the big bosses, especially Kevin [Feige], listened to us,” he said.
Previous showrunners Chris Ord and Matt Corman were let go and The Punisher showrunner Dario Scardapane was brought in. The Netflix stunt coordinator Phil Silvera was also brought on, and Karen and Foggy were brought back as well.
According to Cox, Scardapane added three additional episodes and reworked what was already shot by stitching them together via newly written scenes. Based on what we’ve seen of the show so far, it’s clear that the series is more in line with the violent, gritty tone of the Netflix series.
We’ll be able to see full episodes and judge for ourselves how the new series works soon! The first two episodes of Daredevil: Born Again premiere on Disney+ on March 4, 2025, at 6 p.m. PT/9 p.m. ET. The third episode premieres on March 11, and the fourth on March 18. To keep things confusing, however, March 25 will be the premiere date for both episode five and episode six. No news yet on when the last three episodes in the first season will premiere. icon-paragraph-end
