Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone may have come to an end, but his Western world continues to expand, with the second season of 1923 premiering this weekend. Originally slated to be a limited series like its prequel predecessor, 1883, it seems Season 2 will be the last for this particular time period in the Dutton family’s origin story. However, there are more Yellowstone prequels — and sequels — in the works. Need a refresher on the Yellowstone timeline? We’ve got you covered. Here’s how, and in what order, to watch Yellowstone and all its spinoffs.

How to watch 1923 Season 2

Shows to watch if you like ‘Yellowstone’

Seasons 1–4 and the first half of Yellowstone Season 5 are currently available to stream in their entirety on Peacock. Yellowstone Season 5B premieres on the platform Mar. 16, 2025.

A Peacock subscription is all you’ll need to stream past seasons of Yellowstone. Plus, get access to live sports and events airing on NBC, like NFL and NCAAF games. You’ll also get access to thousands of hours of shows and movies, including beloved sitcoms such as Parks and Recreation and The Office and even recent theatrical releases like Wicked (coming soon).

For $13.99/month you can upgrade to an ad-free subscription which includes live access to your local NBC Channel (not just during designated sports and events) and the ability to download select titles to watch offline.

Paramount+ has two tiers available: an $8/month ad-supported tier and a $13 premium tier that’s ad-free and includes Showtime and live access to your local CBS channel. In addition to 1883 and 1923 Paramount+ offers a host of other live sports, hit shows and new and classic movies.

Paramount+ still offers a free trial — so new subscribers can sign up to watch 1883 and 1923 and check out the rest of the Paramount+ library totally free for seven days.

While the hit show Yellowstone may have come out first, the Dutton family tree goes back much further than the Paramount show’s premiere. The series has two prequel stories out now, 1883 and 1923, with a third prequel, 1944, confirmed.

There are also reportedly several more Yellowstone sequels in the works, including The Madison (formerly titled 2024) and 6666 (currently on hold). With the second season of 1923 coming out this weekend, here’s a quick refresher on where (and in what order) to watch Yellowstone and its subsequent spinoffs.

Starring Sam Elliott, Tim McGraw and Faith Hill, this Yellowstone prequel series follows members of the Dutton family as they travel west across the Great Plains towards Montana. All eight episodes of this limited series are currently streaming on Paramount+.

In 1923, a new generation of Duttons struggled to maintain control of their ranch amidst the early stages of the Great Depression and under the pressure of Prohibition. Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren star in this Yellowstone prequel. Season 1 is now streaming on Paramount+, and the series has already been renewed for Season 2.

Yellowstone follows the modern-day Dutton family, owners of the largest ranch in Montana, as they deal with family drama, land disputes and tension with the neighboring Indian Reservation. Kevin Costner, Luke Grimes, Wes Bentley and Kelly Reilly star in the western drama. Yellowstone seasons 1–5 (the first half) are currently available to stream on Peacock. Yellowstone Season 5B hits the platform on Mar. 16, 2025.

On top of 1883, 1923 and 1944 there are also modern spinoffs The Madison, 6666 and a Matthew McConaughey-led spinoff in the works, as well as another limited series featuring Dutton ancestors from the 1960s set to be released in the future.

1923’s Brandon Sklenar teases Spencer Dutton will become ‘an entirely different person’ by the end of season 2

The actor says the upcoming season of the “Yellowstone” prequel finally showcases his character’s emotional side.

Spencer Dutton will be a changed man by the end of 1923’s second season.

Brandon Sklenar, who plays the strong-hearted nephew of Harrison Ford’s and Helen Mirren’s Jacob and Cara Dutton, tells Entertainment Weekly that his fiery fighter will undergo a major transformation — both emotionally and physically — by the end of the Yellowstone prequel’s forthcoming season.

“I know people are going to just be over the moon with how [creator Taylor Sheridan] wrote this journey. It’s so beautiful. It’s such a beautiful character arc,” the actor says. “Who we see in episode one and who we see at the end of the second season is an entirely different human being.”

If the first season of 1923 taught us anything, it was that you don’t mess with Spencer Dutton. A war-veteran-turned-big-game-hunter, he chose his battles carefully and emerged victorious every time — whether it was against leopards, rampaging elephants, or his lover Alexandra’s (Julia Schlaepfer) jilted ex-fiancé. Now, Sklenar says that Spencer’s softer side is set to take center stage.

“You really see that throughout this season — his ability to open up and reveal that side to himself — and it’s so cathartic,” he adds. “Without that, he would just sort of fall into this brutish kind of thing. Which is entertaining, but it doesn’t hit on the same emotional soul [or] heart level.”

It was also incredibly rewarding for Sklenar, who notes that he’d been personally looking forward to showcasing a new side of Spencer and taking him to “places that we alluded he may go to” in the previous season.

“I kind of knew he was going to end up there, and I’ve been wanting to do that for a couple years now,” he says. “I finally got to do those scenes and just feel how powerful he is — and how emotional he is — and get to let that out. It was a gift.”

However, Spencer has a long road ahead of him before he’ll have the time for any big emotional breakthroughs. The end of season 1 saw him heading back home to Montana in order to protect his family and their ranch from poachers attempting to seize their land. The fear that they might not be alive when he returns — along with the guilt and shame of being forcibly separated from Alexandra — is resting heavy on his shoulders at the outset of season 2.

“He feels a tremendous a weight and responsibility,” Sklenar explains. “And then, you know, it’s like blaming himself. Like, should he never see her again if he doesn’t see his family? Or if, God forsake, something happens to them while he’s on his journey — he just would never forgive himself.”

Sklenar adds that viewers “are not going to be disappointed” by this season’s many twists and turns. “It’s exciting. It’s beautiful and it’s tragic, and it’s full of love and it’s full of obstacles, and it’s ultimately just a profoundly beautiful and poetic season. It really is,” he says. “People are going to love it. I can’t wait.”

Set amid Prohibition era and the Great Depression, this “Yellowstone” origin story follows a generation of Duttons faced with hardship on their family’s land. Season 1 concluded last February with the episode “Nothing Left to Lose,” during which the three-pronged conflict between Whitfield, Banner, and the Duttons finally came to a head. Meanwhile, on a passenger ship, Spencer and Alexandra struggled to make their way home safely; and Marshalls sought out Teonna.

This weekend, season 2 opens with the Duttons working through a particularly bleak winter. Jacob and Cara are hit hard at the ranch, while the brutal conditions make Spencer’s route home to Montana even more dangerous. And as Spencer treks through both bad weather and questionable characters, Alexandra attempts to cross the Atlantic in search of him.
