Saturday Night Live has always poked fun at pop culture and current events, and the show did exactly that during its 50th anniversary special.

On Sunday, Feb. 16, Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds attended SNL50: The Anniversary Special in New York City amid the ongoing legal battle regarding her latest film It Ends With Us. Reynolds, 48, popped up during a bit that former cast members Tina Fey and Amy Poehler did in the first hour of the show that saw them taking audience questions from famous faces in the crowd at Studio 8H.

When Reynolds stood up to ask a question while sitting in the audience next to Lively, Fey, 54, simply asked him, “How’s it going?”

The actor pretended to appear jittery and jokingly responded, “Great, why? What have you heard?”

The comment came after Lively’s It Ends With Us costar Justin Baldoni (who also directed the film) filed a $400 million lawsuit against Lively, Reynolds, their publicist Leslie Sloane and Sloane’s PR firm Vision PR, Inc. on claims of civil extortion, defamation and more. Baldoni, 41, also sued The New York Times for $250 million over a December article claiming he and his team conducted a smear campaign against her.

Jed Wallace, one of the publicists named in a complaint Lively filed with the California Civil Rights Department, sued Lively as well, for $7 million, alleging defamation after the actress’s lawyers claimed Baldoni’s public relations team hired Wallace to assist in the smear campaign reported on by The New York Times.

After alluding to the legal drama on SNL50 on Feb. 16, Reynolds proceeded to ask Fey and Poehler, 53, “You know the material that they made the Coneheads with? Are those edible?”

Fey proceeded to advise against eating the material that helped shape the heads of Dan Aykroyd, Jane Curtin and Laraine Newman into the Conehead alien family. The recurring ‘70s sketch went on to inspire a 1993 film starring the Aykroyd, 72, and Curtin, 77.

“No, and based on them being made in 1975, I’d assume that they’re highly toxic,” Fey said.

But it might’ve been too late for Reynolds. “If somebody hypothetically took a couple of nibbles backstage and, you know, got excited, should they go to the hospital?” he wondered.

Poehler advised that anyone who found themselves in that situation seek medical help. “Yes, they should go to the hospital right away,” the Parks and Recreation star said. “Good luck!”

Nate Bargatze, Quinta Brunson and Tim Meadows also appeared in the sketch.

Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds step out for ‘SNL’ 50th anniversary special amid Justin Baldoni legal battle

Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds on Sunday made their first joint red carpet appearance since the start of their legal dispute with Justin Baldoni.

The couple were seen posing for photos together on the red carpet ahead of the “Saturday Night Live” 50th anniversary special in New York City. Lively wore a bedazzled silver gown and Reynolds in a classic tuxedo.

They were seen smiling and laughing for cameras as they made their way down the red carpet.

During the special, Reynolds made an appearance in a question-and-answer sketch led by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. The pair asked Reynolds how he was doing, to which he answered, “Great. Why? What have you heard?”

Lively and Baldoni’s legal battle began in December when Lively filed a complaint that preceded her civil sexual harassment lawsuit against her “It Ends With Us” costar and director.

In her suit, Lively said that during filming, a meeting was held to address a “hostile work environment that had nearly derailed production” and that she had raised concerns about “repeated sexual harassment and other disturbing behavior by Mr. Baldoni.”

Lively’s suit also alleges that Baldoni’s PR representatives orchestrated a “social manipulation” campaign intended to hurt her reputation in the media in retaliation for raising concerns about his on-set behavior.

Baldoni has denied Lively’s allegations and filed a $400 million defamation lawsuit against Lively, Reynolds and her publicist Leslie Sloane in January.

He also filed a $250 million libel suit against The New York Times on December 31, claiming that the newspaper – who first reported Lively’s civil rights complaint – published an accompanying article that was “rife with inaccuracies.”

A trial date has been set for March 2026.

“Saturday Night Live” has been celebrating its 50th anniversary since this season kicked off, culminating in this weekend’s festivities.

“SNL50: The Anniversary Special” began at 8 p.m. ET on NBC.

Ryan Reynolds Pokes Fun at Blake Lively-Justin Baldoni Feud on ‘SNL50’: ‘What Have You Heard?’

Ryan Reynolds poked fun at the Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni legal feud during NBC’s “SNL50: The Anniversary Special” Sunday.

The joke came during a Q&A section with “Saturday Night Live” alumni Amy Poehler and Tina Fey, in which the celebrity audience asked questions. The “Deadpool” star went second, which Poehler and Fey kicked off by asking him how he was doing.

“Great… Why, what have you heard?” Reynolds said nervously while looking around. Lively sat next to her husband and was visibly surprised by the slight reference, with cameras moving to Poehler and Fey, assuring they hadn’t heard a thing. Reynolds changed topics quickly, asking whether the material for the coneheads from the classic “SNL” sketch was edible.

“Based on that being made in 1975, I assume that they’re highly toxic,” Poehler responded. When he mentioned the hypothetical of “someone” taking some from backstage, they suggested he head to the hospital immediately.

Other participants during the Q&A segment included Quinta Brunson, Fred Armisen, Tim Meadows, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Adam Driver and more.

The joke marks the first time that Reynolds and Lively have publicly commented on the legal battle between them and the star and director of “It Ends With Us.” Lively and Baldoni have been exchanging lawsuits for months in a legal feud that began over the holidays, with Lively claiming Baldoni and other producers engaged in a smear campaign against her. Baldoni fired back claiming that Lively worked with the New York Times to ruin his reputation after the duo disagreed on the final cut of the movie — and that she enlisted Reynolds to rewrite and take over the movie.

The case is set to be heard in court next year.
