Suns vs. Mavericks odds, line, prediction, time: 2025 NBA picks, March 9 best bets from proven model
The Phoenix Suns (29-34) travel to take on the Dallas Mavericks (32-32) in a matchup with postseason implications on Sunday. The injury-depleted Mavs are hanging on to the final play-in spot in the West, but the Suns are just 2.5 games behind. The Mavericks were already dealing with the stunning departure of Luka Doncic via trade this season. Since that point they’ve lost the player Doncic was swapped for — Anthony Davis — to an adductor injury for multiple weeks and Kyrie Irving (ACL) for the year.
Tipoff from American Airlines Arena in Dallas is at 3:30 p.m. ET. The Suns are 7.5-point favorites in the latest Suns vs. Mavericks odds via SportsLine consensus, while the over/under is 228.5. The Suns are -298 money line favorites (risk $298 to win $100), while the Mavs are +239 underdogs (risk $100 to win $239). Before locking in any Mavericks vs. Suns picks, make sure to check out the NBA predictions and betting advice from the SportsLine Projection Model.
The SportsLine Projection Model simulates every NBA game 10,000 times and has returned well over $10,000 in betting profit for $100 players on its top-rated NBA picks over the past six-plus seasons. The model enters Week 20 of the 2024-25 NBA season on a sizzling 147-107 roll on all top-rated NBA picks dating back to last season, returning nearly $4,000. It’s also an outstanding 18-10 (64%) on top-rated spread picks this season. Anyone following at sportsbooks and on betting apps could have seen huge returns.
Now, the model has simulated Suns vs. Mavs 10,000 times and just revealed its coveted NBA picks and betting predictions. You can head to SportsLine now to see the model’s picks. Here are several NBA odds and NBA betting lines for Mavs vs. Suns:
Phoenix should be highly-motivated in this contest against a Dallas team it is chasing for a play-in spot. The Suns know Dallas should get healthier in the coming weeks, so stealing a win on the road would go a long way in helping their postseason chances.
While finding secondary scoring options has been tough this season, the Suns have two of the top pure scorers in the league in Kevin Durant (26.9 ppg) and Devin Booker (26 ppg). Dallas likely doesn’t have the offensive personnel to keep up with those two if their shots are falling at their normal rate. See which team to back at SportsLine.
While the Mavs have their own share of issues, Phoenix has been extremely poor overall since the beginning of February. The Suns are 5-12 straight-up with only six covers during that span. The Suns are particularly weak on the glass, ranking 26th in the league with 42.6 boards per game.
Dallas can still lean on legendary 3-point shooter Klay Thompson, who is being asked to carry the offensive load with so many players out. He scored 28 points and shot 40.7% from 3-point range on Wednesday, and another game like that could position the Mavs to cover on Sunday. See which team to back at SportsLine.
SportsLine’s model has simulated Suns vs. Mavs and is leaning Under on the total, projecting 225 combined points. The model also says one side of the spread hits in over 50% of simulations. You can head to SportsLine to see the model’s NBA picks.
So who wins Suns vs. Mavs on Friday, and which side of the spread hits in over 50% of simulations? Visit SportsLine now to see which side of the spread to back, all from the model that has returned well over $10,000 on top-rated NBA picks, and find out.

Mavericks vs Suns Preview and Injury Report: National TV Sadness Bowl
FILED UNDER:
An ABC game of two very disappointing teams
The Dallas Mavericks (32-32) host the Phoenix Suns (29-34) on a Sunday afternoon nationally televised match up on ABC. This game looked like a fantastic game from the schedule makers back in the fall, only for each team to be disappointing in their own ways. The Mavericks have lost four straight but they showed real signs of fight against the Memphis Grizzlies following a pair of blowouts. The Suns are coming off a brutal overtime loss to the Denver Nuggets. Here’s what you need to know about this contest:

As is tradition for the Mavericks at this point, the injury report is brutal. Anthony Davis, Kyrie Irving, Dereck Lively, Daniel Gafford, Jaden Hardy, Olivier Maxence Prosper, and Kai Jones are out. Dante Exum is listed as questionable as is Caleb Martin. I expect those last two to play. The Suns are missing Monte Morris with a low back issue.
The Suns don’t have any real injury issues, they’re just playing sad basketball. They should beat the pants off the Mavericks and yet I am pretty sure our Mavericks are going to make this one very uncomfortable for them. Let’s see how the guys come out and play. Spencer Dinwiddie is the real x-factor for me today.
As you can tell below, you can join me and some other Mavs Moneyball guys in a room on Playback (embedded below) during the game (though I may not be able to start it until halftime). Also, consider joining Josh and I on Pod Maverick live after the game on YouTube, we should start after the game. Thanks so much for spending time with us here at Mavs Moneyball. Let’s go Mavs!

How to Watch Suns vs. Mavericks: Live Stream NBA, TV Channel
Two of the season’s biggest underperformers face off on Sunday as the Phoenix Suns head to Texas to battle the injury-plagued, struggling Dallas Mavericks.
The Dallas Mavericks have endured a nightmare season, beginning with the highly controversial trade of Luka Dončić, a move that sparked outrage among fans and left many questioning their loyalty to the team.
Since then, things have only gotten worse. The Mavericks’ prized acquisition, Anthony Davis, suffered an injury in his first game with the team, adding to their misfortunes. Then came a devastating blow: Kyrie Irving tore his ACL this week, ruling him out for the remainder of the 2024-25 season, with concerns that his recovery could extend beyond that.
To make matters worse, Dallas has also lost two of its key big men, Daniel Gafford and Dereck Lively II, to injuries, leaving them severely shorthanded in the frontcourt. With their roster in shambles and their season spiraling, the Mavericks appear to be dealing with a string of bad luck that just won’t end.
How to Watch the Suns vs Mavericks:
Event: NBA regular season game
Date: Sunday, March 9, 2025
Time: 3:30 PM ET
Venue: American Airlines Center
Channel: ABC

The Suns haven’t been quite as ill-struck as the Mavericks this season, but that might be even more concerning, as the team brought back all of its stars from the last campaign, made some improvements to its backcourt and hired a new head coach in Mike Budenholzer, who has a championship on his resume, and yet, sit at 29-34 on the year, right outside of a Play-In Tournament spot.
That has led to a lot of speculation that this could be the final stretch of games of the Kevin Durant era in Phoenix. Regardless, with both Phoenix and Dallas reeling and right on the Play-In Tournament bubble line, there is no doubt both sides will play hard on Sunday.
Tune in to ABC at 3:30 p.m. ET on Sunday afternoon to watch an interesting matchup between the Suns and Mavericks, two teams who are struggling and desperate for a win.
