What a nasty day!! Not only did we experience a “brown out” today with the dust, at times, we really did look like Mars. Our peak gust at the airport was 54 mph. Our high today was 72, and the record on this date is 85 set in 2009. Just look at this Weather Watcher picture from AJ Cueto. Unfortunately, we are in for more gusty winds and dust on Tuesday as well. Here’s your exclusive 9-Hour Forecast:
TONIGHT: KTSM has issued a Weather Authority Alert due to powerful winds and blowing dust tonight and Tuesday. A High Wind Warning and a Dust Advisory are posted until 8 PM and may be extended. The west winds will range from 25-55 mph with the strongest gusts on the east slopes of the mountains. The skies above the dust will be partly cloudy. The low will drop to 46.
FORECAST: Tuesday will be another very windy day. The W-NW winds will range from 15-55 mph, and the high will drop to 67. Again, the winds will cause blowing dust. Wednesday will be beautiful with mostly sunny skies and light winds, a refreshing reprieve from the strong winds. The south breeze will range from 5-15 mph, and the high will be 72. Thursday will bring more gusty winds and a dusty haze. The SW winds will gust near 50 mph, and the high will be 78. Friday will bring powerful winds and blowing dust. The W-NW winds will gust near 60 mph. The skies will cloud up in the afternoon, and we could see a few drops of rain mixed with the dust. Friday’s high: 66. Saturday will be sunny but windy and a dusty haze. Saturday’s high: 63.

WEATHER ALERT

After rainfall this morning (only .06″ at the airport), gusty winds are starting to kick in. The concerns for rapidly spreading wildfires is very high today not only for San Antonio, but for a large portion of Texas.
CLEARING SKIES
Skies will clear this morning, while humidity levels plummet. Temperatures today will reach the upper-70s.
GUSTS TO 50 MPH
Very gusty winds will take hold by mid-morning, as skies clear. West winds gusting to 45 to 50 mph will be possible from roughly 10am to 4pm. This will create blowing dust and difficult driving conditions for high profile vehicles. Expect high temperatures in the upper-70s and very low humidity.
🚨EXTREME FIRE DANGER🚨
Rarely do we see this much of Texas within an extreme fire danger, but with gusty winds for much of the state, low humidity, and drought conditions, rapidly spreading fires is a real concern. Something as small as a downed powerline could result in a major wildfire. It’s important to avoid anything that could create a spark today. A Red Flag Warning is in effect until 9pm tonight.

High Wind Warning in effect for El Paso/Las Cruces Monday 12-8 PM. Gusts up to 60 mph and visibilities under 1 mile possible.

TOPICS:
EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14) — A dust storm warning blanketed El Paso on Thursday, leaving residents grappling with high winds and poor air quality. Many locals shared their experiences, highlighting the challenges of living in the borderland during such weather conditions.
Christopher Contreras, an El Paso resident, described the situation: “It’s so dusty out there, man. I get dust all up in my mouth and my eyes.”
Jerry Valenzuela, another resident, said, “I woke up this morning, I got the alert. As soon as I got that alert, I was like, well, there goes the rest of the day.”
Some residents in Northeast El Paso weren’t as fazed by the conditions today.
“This is nothing. It’s been worse. It’s been to that point where I have had trouble crossing the street just to get to the bus stop. That was about a year, maybe two years ago,” said Laura Acosta as she waited for the bus.
“I got off of work early, so I’m pretty happy, but I’m still gonna walk my dog and go to the gym,” Carlos Mares remarked.
Acosta and Mares say they’ve lived in El Paso long enough to be used to the weather by now.
“It’s not going to change. It’s going to it’s probably might get worse. But you just got to take your time, especially watch out for pedestrians. That’s the that’s the main thing is watch out for pedestrians,” Acosta said.
The dust storm not only affected visibility but also made driving hazardous. Contreras noted, “It does get a little bad on Montana and I-10, but you know what, we’re kinda used to it here in Texas.” He expressed sympathy for truck drivers unfamiliar with the conditions, saying, “I do feel bad for the eighteen-wheelers who have to drive out here from other states.”
Valenzuela added, “Pretty much weather like this, any type of rain, anything like that, it does cause a little bit of tense driving for other people.”
The storm left parks deserted as residents opted to stay indoors, hoping for a return to normalcy soon. Valenzuela remarked, “I feel like after a dust storm like this, most people wouldn’t want to go out.”
Contreras advised, “Stay indoors, it’ll get a little sunny again here in El Paso, it’ll get better.”
