‘Survivor’ returns tonight: How to watch season 48, TV, streaming, cast, host, preview

A new season of “Survivor” is here.

And the “Survivor” community has been buzzing for days. Not only is Wednesday the Season 48 premiere, but it kicks off voting for the milestone season 50 that will be put in the hands of the fans.

“Survivor” host Jeff Probst announced over the weekend that fans will have their say about how Season 50 will run, the first time viewers will have this much power over the game. Season 50 will film later this year and air in spring 2026.

But first it’s the start of Season 48 from Fiji, the longtime site for the CBS-based reality TV competition show where castaways will again look to outwit, outlast and outplay their fellow survivors for a chance to win $1 million.

Here’s what to know about the new season of “Survivor,” which is entering its 25th year on television in 2025.

The new season of “Survivor” is Wednesday, Feb. 26, with a two-hour premiere. Ensuing episodes are 90 minutes.

MUST-READ:Milwaukee’s Andrea Boehlke has gone from ‘Survivor’ fan favorite to mental health advocate. She’s combining these two worlds this week.

“Survivor” is broadcast on CBS.

It streams live on Paramount+ with a Showtime plan. This plan costs $12.99/month. Viewers can stream episodes the next day on a Paramount+ Essential plan. It costs $7.99/month.

Here was the official sneak peek to Season 48 that CBS released during the Season 47 finale last fall.

Who will be the Sole Survivor? Here is the cast of the 48th season of “Survivor.”

Probst talked about the casting process during a recent interview with “CBS Sunday Morning”:

There are once again three tribes of six players to begin the game. The names of the tribes are Vula, Lagi and Civa.

Jeff Probst, the four-time Emmy Award winner, is the longtime host of the show. He has been the host every season and later added executive producer to his title. How long will Probst host the show? Probst has now plans on slowing down, he said in an interview with “CBS Sunday Morning.”

Survivor began in 2000 and quickly became a cultural phenomenon. Three Wisconsinites were on the first season that saw Richard Hatch win the $1 million prize.

Over 700 players have now competed on the show through 47 seasons. Players must not only survive the elements of the environment but also navigate the social and strategic dynamics of their tribe to outlast their fellow competitors to be the Sole Survivor.

The show has filmed across the world, but since season 33, it has set up camp in the Fijian Islands, where they film two seasons in the spring and early summer.

Probst announced over the weekend the theme of “Survivor 50,” the highly anticipated season that will begin filming later this year and air on TV next spring with all returning players.

The 50th season of “Survivor” will be “Survivor 50: In the Hands of the Fans.”

Fans will be able to vote on key elements of the game before the contestants fly out to Fiji for filming. The players won’t know the results until they find out as the game is unfolding. Here is the website fans can vote from when voting begins at 8:30 CT.

The first batch of questions will be released to fans Wednesday night during the season 48 premiere. These will include a choice for the colors of the buffs, whether the players should start with rice for nourishment or not, if the Final Four firemaking twist should stick around and whether there should be a live reunion, something the show has gone away from since season 41 when it has revealed the winner in Fiji with just the contestants and jury in attendance.

“I think that it shows that ‘Survivor’ really wants to listen to the fans and the fans of ‘Survivor’ are very involved,” said three-time contestant and Milwaukee resident Andrea Boehlke in a recent interview. “It’s a show that you can’t really, I feel like you can’t really passively watch ‘Survivor.’ You have to be really paying attention because there’s so much strategy. There’s so many layers to it. So I think it’s really cool that they’re putting it in the hands of the fans.”
