Astro Bot: five new levels and Special Bots begin rolling out today

Image

Brand-new Special Bots to rescue and Time Attack mode with online rankings starting today.

It’s a great pleasure to see you with our first post of 2025. From all of us at Team Asobi, we wish you a wonderful year ahead.

Last year saw the release of Astro Bot, our biggest game to date. As well as picking several game awards, we have been blessed with countless comments and lovely words from you, the players.

This has made the hard work of everyone at Team Asobi even more worth it. So from the bottom of our lil’ robotic hearts, hearts, a huge thank you to you all.

And one person who’s clearly having fun with Astro Bot is no other than Finn Wolfhard, featured alongside Astro in a fun new video.

And now, into the main news! To start the year on a good note, we are delighted to announce new Astro Bot content is coming starting today. You might have noticed that a, yet unreleased, level of Astro Bot was featured at the PlayStation XP Tournament Final in London, England on January 18. That very level, along with 4 additional ones will be coming your way inside the brand-new Vicious Void Galaxy, starting today.

As before, this new update is completely free of charge and a gift from us to you, the Astro Bot community.

These five levels will appear on a weekly basis as follows:

Note: All Astro Bot updates from February 13 to March 13 will be available every Thursday at 6:00am PT, 2:00pm GMT, and 10:00pm JST.

Unlike our last update Winter Wonder, which was a walk through the Xmas park, this new update features harder levels to test your jumping skills. Each level comes with a brand-new Special Bot to rescue and, once that’s done, can be replayed in Time Attack mode with online rankings. To access these, you will need to have completed the main game. So sharpen those skills again and let’s get rescuing.

“Tick Tock Shock”, the first of 5 new levels will release on February 13

But hold on, we still have more news. Alongside these five new levels, we are pleased to say that owners of the PS5 Pro will be able to enjoy an improved version of Astro Bot featuring a constant best resolution while still running at 60 frames per second.

That’s about all for this update. We hope you enjoy it. We want to take this chance to thank you, sincerely, for the ongoing support. We could not be happier with the way Astro was welcomed into so many new homes. Your comments, positivity and kind words have carried us through the months and continue to warm our little robotic hearts. Thank you for your loyalty and we shall see you around.

Team Asobi out.

Astro Bot DLC Arrives Today as First of 5 New Expansions Coming to the PlayStation Platformer

Sony is releasing another stream of Astro Bot expansions, the first of which is available today, February 13, adding a total of five new levels and as many special bots. This is joined by a PlayStation 5 Pro patch, which allows the best resolution while running at 60 frames per second.

Detailed in a PlayStation Blog post, Tick-Tock Shock is the first level available now. Subsequent stages — Thrust or Bust, Cock-A-Doodle-Doom, Hard to Bear, and Armored Hardcore — will be available each following Thursday at 6am Pacific / 9am Eastern / 2pm UK.

“Unlike our last update Winter Wonder, which was a walk through the Xmas park, this new update features harder levels to test your jumping skills,” said director of developer Team Asobi, Nicolas Doucet.

“Each level comes with a brand new Special Bot to rescue and, once that’s done, can be replayed in Time Attack mode with online rankings.”

This is the third full wave of Astro Bot downloadable content, which began with a similarly structured five speedrun levels after launch and, until this release today, most recently saw a special Christmas themed level released.

Players have long expected more DLC, however, as a number of unreleased bots appeared in the Astro Bots credits. Featured here are licensing credits for Rayman, Worms, Assassin’s Creed, Beyond Good & Evil, Croc, and Tomba, potentially revealing which five special bots will be released alongside these levels. That being said, Armored Hardcore is almost certainly a reference to Armored Core, while Cock-A-Doodle-Doom is likely Doom, so bots from these franchises are also likely.

Astro Bot has proved incredibly popular for PlayStation, having sold 1.5 million units in its first two months on sale and earned a 9/10 in IGN’s review. “A fantastically inventive platformer in its own right, Astro Bot is particularly special for anyone with a place in their heart for PlayStation,” we said.

Believe it or bot.

The Best Game Of 2024 Keeps Getting More Free Levels

Image

Sony’s amazing PlayStation 5 platformer, Astro Bot, is getting five new free levels over the coming weeks, making the already content-packed game even bigger and better. Oh, and PS5 Pro owners get a little bonus, too.

Released last year exclusively on PS5, Astro Bot was our top game of 2024 and it remains a great reason to own a PS5. The cute platformer contains over 100 “Cameo Bots,” robots based on PlayStation characters, who you save as you complete the game’s fantastic and colorful levels. And despite already adding some free levels to Astro Bot last year, including a Christmas-themed winter wonderland, Sony and developer Team Asobi are adding even more free levels.

On February 13, Team Asobi announced that it was adding five new levels to Astro Bot. The first free level is available now and can be found in a newly added “Vicious Void Galaxy.” The other four levels will be added over the next four weeks, similarly to how the post-launch speed-run levels were handled last year. Here’s the list of new levels and when they drop:

To access these new levels, which will each add a fresh Cameo Bot to your collection, you’ll need to have completed the main game.

According to the blog post announcing these new levels, they will be more challenging than the Xmas-themed freebie from December. It sounds like these will be about as difficult as some of the levels found in the later stages of the main game.

Oh, and PS5 Pro owners—all 68 of you—should be excited to know that Astro Bot is getting a patch that will let the game run at its highest possible resolution while maintaining a steady 60FPS. That’s nice, but I was really hope for a 120hz mode. Regardless, I’m just happy to have more Astro Bot to play!
