Hawks, Sixers down several players for Monday’s game

ATLANTA — The Hawks and 76ers were missing several notable players, including top-scoring point guards Trae Young of Atlanta and Tyrese Maxey of Philadelphia, for Monday night’s game.

Coach Nick Nurse said the 76ers would have only nine players in uniform. The team announced forward Paul George would miss the game and Wednesday night’s game at Toronto with left groin soreness.

Maxey missed his fourth consecutive game. Forward Kelly Oubre Jr., another usual starter, was out with a sprained right ankle.

The Hawks held out Young due to a left calf contusion. Atlanta was also without guard Caris LeVert due to a sprained left middle finger.

Hawks forward Vit Krejci (lumbar fracture) returned for Atlanta after missing 10 games.

Nurse acknowledged injuries have added more difficulty to the season for the 76ers (22-41), who entered the night 11th in the Eastern Conference.

“There’s no denying the disappointment you have and you have to face a lot,” Nurse said before the game. “The losing is hard. Trying to keep it all together is the main thing.”

Boston Celtics center Kristaps Porzingis announced on X on Monday that he has been sitting out with what has so far been an unidentified illness.

“I have been dealing with some viral illness that we haven’t been able to fully identify yet,” Porzingis posted on the social media site during Monday’s game between the Celtics and Jazz in Boston. “I am recovering and getting better. But still working my way back to full [strength] to help this team. Thanks for support and [I’m] hoping for a healthy return soon.”

Porzingis hasn’t played since Feb. 26 in Detroit with what the team has described only as a non-COVID illness, with Monday’s game marking the sixth consecutive game that he has sat out.

The 7-foot-2 center is averaging 18.9 points, 6.8 rebounds and 1.6 blocks for Boston across 32 games this season. He sat out the opening month of the season after undergoing offseason surgery to repair a rare tendon injury in his ankle that he sustained during last season’s NBA Finals.

Boston entered Monday’s game having won 14 of its past 17, and sits in second place in the Eastern Conference standings. Boston will host the Western Conference leading Oklahoma City Thunder on Wednesday night.

Hawks vs. 76ers odds, score prediction, time: 2025 NBA picks, March 10 best bets from proven model

A pair of teams just outside certain NBA Playoffs thresholds will meet as part of Monday’s NBA schedule as the Atlanta Hawks host the Philadelphia 76ers. Atlanta (30-34) is seventh in the Eastern Conference, one spot behind a guaranteed postseason spot and avoiding the NBA Play-In Tournament. Meanwhile, Philadelphia (22-41) is 11th in the East, one spot behind clinching a spot in the play-in tournament. This is the first matchup of the season between these teams, and they split four meetings last season.

Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m. ET from State Farm Arena in Atlanta. The Hawks favored by 11.5 points in the latest 76ers vs. Hawks odds, according to the SportsLine consensus. The over/under is 236 points. Atlanta is at -599 on the money line (risk $599 to win $100), while Philly is at +441 (risk $100 to win $441). Before entering any Hawks vs. 76ers picks, you’ll want to see the NBA predictions from the model at SportsLine.

The SportsLine Projection Model simulates every NBA game 10,000 times and has returned well over $10,000 in betting profit for $100 players on its top-rated NBA picks over the past six-plus seasons. The model enters Week 20 of the 2024-25 NBA season on a sizzling 147-107 roll on all top-rated NBA picks dating back to last season, returning nearly $4,000. It’s also an outstanding 18-10 (64%) on top-rated spread picks this season. Anyone following at sportsbooks and on betting apps could have seen huge returns.

The model has set its sights on Philadelphia vs. Atlanta. You can head to SportsLine to see its picks. Here are several NBA betting lines for Hawks vs. 76ers:

Philadelphia ended a three-game losing streak with a 126-122 victory over the Utah Jazz on Sunday. The game wasn’t as close as the score indicated as Philly led by as many as 22 points and controlled the game, leading for over 32 minutes throughout. Quentin Grimes and Lonnie Walker IV each had 25 points to lead the Sixers, with Walker’s points coming as a reserve. As a team, the 76ers’ bench combined for 78 points, which is the second-most in a game in franchise history.

With six players in double-figures, Philadelphia showed it still has talent to put plenty of points on the board even without star players like Joel Embiid (knee), Paul George (groin) and Tyrese Maxey (back). The Sixers who will take the court can exploit a Hawks defense which struggles in multiple areas, ranking 28th in both field goal percentage allowed and 3-point percentage allowed, with additional bottom-eight rankings in opposing points in the paint and opposing fastbreak points per game. Atlanta emerged with a 120-118 victory over Indiana on Saturday, giving the Hawks back-to-back victories for the first time since the All-Star break. Trae Young was the standout performer with 36 points, while new acquisition, Caris LeVert, contributed 26 points off the bench. The Hawks also covered and have now covered in three of their last four games, while the 76ers are 0-4 ATS over their last four outings.

LeVert is averaging 16.8 points on 51% shooting in 12 games with the Hawks, after putting up 10.2 points on 45.3% shooting with the Cleveland Cavaliers. Meanwhile, guard Dyson Daniels leads the NBA with 3.0 steals per game, which is on pace to be the most by any NBA player since Alvin Robertson in the 1990-91 season. He could wreak havoc versus a Sixers team whose primary ballhandlers are expected to be sidelined, and Philly is coming off an 18-turnover game on Sunday, which is its most since Jan. 14. See which team to pick here.

The model has simulated Hawks vs. 76ers 10,000 times and the results are in. The model is leaning Under, projecting 226 combined points, and it also says one side of the spread hits well over 50% of the time. You can only see the pick at SportsLine.

So who wins Sixers vs. Hawks, and which side of the spread hits in well over 50% of simulations? Visit SportsLine now to see which side of the Hawks vs. Sixers spread you need to jump on, all from the model that is on a 147-107 roll on top-rated NBA picks since last season, and find out.

Sixers’ lottery odds could be set to improve against Hawks

Image

FILED UNDER:

The Sixers are finishing their back-to-back on the road against the Hawks, who are in the playoff picture as Philly sit back with the seventh-worst record in the NBA.

Well, who’d have thought, the Sixers actually won on Sunday! Thanks to a host of solid performances from the team’s role players, led by Quentin Grimes and Lonnie Walker IV scoring 25 points each, the Sixers beat the Jazz, 126-122. It ended the team’s three-game losing streak and put a slight bump in their ever climbing lottery odds.

On Monday, the Sixers are on the road to complete this back-to-back against the Hawks — a team that’s fared far better than Philly to fight into the bottom of the playoff picture. The Hawks currently sit at seventh place in the Eastern Conference at 30-34, and will be looking to extend their current win streak to three, following two straight solid wins against the Pacers.

With Joel Embiid shut down for the season and Paul George out as the Sixers take things day to day with recovery for his groin soreness (an injury that for some puzzling reason George has tried to play through for this faltering team), the Sixers will continue missing plenty of firepower in this one. While we’ll need to wait until nearer game time for a new official injury report, Tyrese Maxey did remain out on Sunday due to his lower back sprain.

For the Hawks, Jalen Johnson (left shoulder surgery), Kobe Bufkin (right shoulder surgery), and Larry Nance Jr. (right medial femoral condyle fracture) are all out, while Trae Young (left quad contusion) and Vit Krejci (lumbar fracture) are questionable.

Frankly, it’s hard to find much to look forward to in Sixers game right now — as has been the case for a while. With such underwhelming performance, poor health, and so many losses that hoping for keeping that lottery pick can’t be avoided, there aren’t many bright spots to focus on.

That said, maybe Kelly Oubre Jr. (who’s consistently showing up and playing just as you could hope for) and Grimes (thriving all around while averaging 17.4 points, 5.2 rebounds and 3.6 assists with a 61.2 true shooting percentage) can continue putting in strong performances. Adem Bona’s energy and impact at both ends may keep going too, even on more tired legs. Jared Butler also made the most of more minutes against Utah with a 15-point, nine-assist night.

Lottery odds are firmly on everyone’s minds at this point, though, so including them in previews now feels like part of the deal. The Sixers currently have the seventh-worst record in the league, and here are their current odds to keep their pick depending on a few key lottery positions:

5: 63.9% to keep pick, 10.5% for first overall

6: 45.8% to keep pick, 9.0% for first overall

7: 31.9% to keep pick, 7.5% for first overall

Essentially, dropping to fifth would make a huge difference.

This game likely won’t be pretty. That’s generally been the case recently even when the Sixers haven’t been tired and going on the road for the second nights of back-to-backs.

However, if we can get more solid showings from the Sixers’ role players for a little entertainment value before picking up another loss/improved odds in the lottery, that wouldn’t be a bad result right now.
